New exhaust in the post

My original GS exhaust finally rotted away at the collector/rear pipe weld  >:(

After having a sticky right-hand carb float last week, I was riding home from work Monday when I noticed everything wasn't entirely right with the bike. When I arrived home I studied the exhaust and suddenly realised I could see daylight through the pipe at the rear weld of the collector :o .

I've purchased a Motad Nexus complete 2 into 1 replacement system with the old credit card (aah credit...what a wonderful thing  :icon_rolleyes:).

Will try and post pics when I've got the thing installed. Already got the worst over...wrestled the exhaust pipe bolts off the same night I discovered the problem. Difficult job getting those bolts off! Fitting the new system should be a piece of cake!

Not just pics, how about a video or audio recording too so we can hear the thing rumble.

It's Tuesday 26 July and I'm still waiting for delivery from DHL . Hopefully they'll deliver when my son is in the house otherwise I'll be going through the pain of organising redelivery/pick up! Hopefully fit it Saturday if it comes! :thumb:

Doh! Exhaust hasn't even been fabricated yet! :technical: Have spoken to Motad and they have said it'll be a week or so before it's made and dispatched :icon_sad:. Anyhoo, at least I should actually get it eventually (I was really worried that I had been ripped off by the retailer! :2guns:).

Well here it is at last! And the new exhaust retains access to the sump plug and oil filter. Looks pretty good in my opinion and was relatively easy to fit. Only downside to the story is when I stood back to admire my work...I noticed a nail in my rear tyre...doh!

It sounds a little meatier/louder than stock but there's not a huge difference. It's a bit frustrating because I can't take the bike out for a week or so until I get the rear tyre replaced because of that damn nail!

are you running stock air filter?  A k&n filter or similar will make it sound really meatier/louder.  Don't forget to check air fuel ratio

All stock - shouldn't need a rejet because the exhaust is a direct replacement not designed as a performance enhancer. I just love this bike for what it is. Right then...off into the back garden to wrestle the rear wheel off the GS and take it to the bike shop for replacement! Also picking up the rear wheel for my Yamaha 600 Diversion which also required a new rear tyre (I haven't had much luck with rear tyres of late!).  :dunno_white:

Looks good.  How many food stamps did it cost you to have made up?

HardcoreKeith

That's a fantastic looking exhaust.

At least it looks like you got a good lifespan out of that rear tire.  I would always run over nails about a thousand miles after putting on new tires.  >:(

It cost £296 (you'll have to do the conversion to dollars, etc). £300 to £330 is the going rate. Factor in the cost of 4 new bolts and there you have it.

I took the bike out yesterday for the first run since fitting the new exhaust and I'm sure that the performance has increased! The acceleration has definitely improved. The Motad exhaust must be allowing the engine to breathe more freely. At the end of the day though...it does look the dog's danglies!  :thumb:
