Hi there Ive been going through this whole forum for a couple of weeks now, and it looks like a good comunity from what Ive seen  :thumb:, Ive got a spare gs frame and thinking how to mod it i want to change the subframe but very confused in what to go with, and how hard is it, please consider this is my first time, also thinking about the vfr rear swing arm but how would i go about with doing it Ive seen it done but want more details, at the moment my valves went in my engine, so Ive managed to pick up a frame and engine for cheaper that what a rebuild will cost me so in the process of putting that in at the moment, any help is much appreciated and its good to be within the community  :woohoo:

Most sport bike tails IMHO look dumb ... too wide in the rear. The buell lightning one is not too wide but the frame rails have to be cut in the right location ... else that looks dumb too. I'd almos tsay ... none of them fit/work and look right - assume it need to look good ... else wh ywould you do it.

VFR SA wont fit, hawk sa needs to be milled on the sides to fit. But a hawk sa also goes through the motor in the middle. Have to sleeve it ... I suspect it wont be strong enough if not made with the engine in it.
SA's from other suzuki sport bikes work good though. Old GSXR, RG250 etc.

Thanks for the reply, i was personally thinking of the SV650 04+ rear as i like it but anythink that i choose would have to have a passenger seat for the other half, but wanted something a little different, do you think that would be to hard with the sv? i have looked a the buell and do really like it but parts over here (UK) is like finding a needle in a hay stack even on ebay so that goes out the window but i do like it.

From what i read with the VFR 400 swing arm is all you need to do is get spacers specially made and re-position the shock? or am i wrong i was looking at the bandit swing arm or gsxr, Do they just slot in or do they need work? but they are expensive over here ( i cant see why because theres so many about), any way cheers for the reply

vfr 400 ... UK ... tha texplains a lot, no vfr 4 in US, no idea.
SV's rear end is huge ... I got one ... no way that would look even 1/2 decent ... however a 03 sv 1000 and by extension I think the 650 had a steel tail section ... use it if you wanna weld up ... use 04 and later if you wanna bolt on.

Alright no worrys ill just do some research and how would you bolt it on though? cut the standard one off then drill?

Also have a big problem if someone could help fitted this new engine in today and she fired up fine but having major problems with the clutch, i thought maybe it was the plates but still nothing, im not getting no clutch at all, the rod is only pushing the first two plates out and when im not holding the clutch in its as if there is no tension there to grab so i can still move the back wheel whilst its in gear its kinda hard to explain but if anyone could help id be more than grateful, and you need any more details just ask the questions

Cheers

Sticky plates in the clutch ? ... open and check if somethign is warped I guess ...
Oddly in the 48K I ran on my 89 and the 17 GS'es I've owned, I never did a clutch ... my 48K bike had a kevlar in it before I got it, but never had an issue ... my only clutch experience is from an xs 650 rephase I worked on ... taking it apart. Its still apart so I am yet to put one back together.

I have had it all apart, and back together still with no luck, i thought maybe it was the plates even though they looked in pretty good nick, i took the clutch of my other engine and transfered it to this engine, still no luck with that, i checked the size of the rod which pushes through the engine also and they are exactly the same size, so there goes that thought out the window, so i though it maybe the cases on the side which the cable goes into, still with no luck, so then thought maybe the cable had stretched so went out and brought a new one and still nothing, its really confusing me, the wheel has not a lot of tention when its in gear ( meaning its stiff but i can still move it with my hand which i shouldn't be able to do whilst its in gear) but also doesn't free when the clutch is pulled in, did think maybe its the gear box but can change to every gear, i did get told yesterday by a friend of mine that there is a bearing behind the push rod and this maybe havedropped when the push rod had been removed, but couldn't see why it would as when i removed the push rod on my previous engine i had no problems, if someone could verify this id be grateful, but where about is it if there is 1? if someone could help me id be more than appreciative as this is the only thing keeping me off the road and my GS is my only transport  :icon_confused:.

Cheers

I went with a cbr 2006 tail but the more I look at it, the more I'm more in agreement with Buddha.  With a wider tire or swingarm swap it will look okay and I may go that route since I've already done it, but I may change it up.
