After a 3 hour search, found a new battery at a local place. FU SEARS!  >:(

Installed battery cleaned out the pilot jets because I let the bike sit for too long. Whoops!
Runs like a top now and took it for a short ride. Tomorrow I want to change the oil, but I'm not optimistic about finding an oil filter locally on Labor Day.

oh well! Maybe I'll just hang out and drink beers instead!
1992 GS500E- K&N, rejet, fenderectomy, Buell turn signals, mirrors, sexy-fine black rims.

Pretty new to the bike world but not so much to "improving" your belongings. Felt the 1992 was a little old, in come the leds (used the sticky strips inside the gauge cups).

Forcedfour, that looks great.  Any chance of a more detailed writeup?  I'm sure there are other members interested in doing similar work, including myself.

Of course. It was pretty simple to do as well, cost me less than 12$ too. I should have taken some pictures as I went.

I used this guy's write up as inspiration. Threw it into google translate for an english version:

http://forum.gs-500.de/showthread.php?t=17886

The only not straight forward part is actually opening up the gauge cups, the bezel is folded over a lip to hold it on. I used a flat head screw driver and lifted and rolled it out of the way. I didn't go the distance the german guy did and use a reflector inside the housing. The leds provide more than enough light without it to in my opinion, anymore and the extra light in your peripheral vision at night will be distracting.

My needles were a faded yellow colour and parts of the gauge face seemed to have been flaked/faded as well and the light was coming through the backing. I used an acrylic paint and a tiny brush and redid the faces then painted the needles red.

These are the led's I used:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3984Q2em1439Q2el2649QQitemZ180581290633QQsspagenameZSTRKQ3aMEWNXQ3aIT01

If I were to redo it I would use a slightly longer strip, 16cm covers the entire sweep of the gauge and doesn't cause any hot spots but a little bit longer (maybe 3-4 cm more) would have made it go 3/4 of the way around the cup.

I've got some more led's on the way to retrofit into the tail light. I'll take pics of that project. 8 3w leds should improve visibility over the stock bulbs.

those leds look great!!

got a few things checked off the list; integrated tail, fenderectomy, gsxr pegs, buddha cover, and passenger seat cover

TREY is all LED. Here he is at night. TREY actually has cool white LEDs but the camera white balance threw it off. It is not quite as blue as in this photo, but still on the blue side of the spectrum. I prefer it over pure blue. My second choice is warm white - nbot as yellow as amber but yellower than pure white.

Suzi is mostly LED, including the park light in the headlight assembly and LED fog Denali fog lights. Probably finish all LED work tomorrow. Might as well get it done and out of the way.

In the "cave", we have a test bench for LEDs. Maybe these photos will help you decide what color you want. I did not use my good Canon XTI camera, just the cheepie Sony T-7 so exposures are not always identical. Tried to have it keep the same color balance.

You can see the metal light deflector in the instruments.
Note how small a T-5 wedge is compared to a T-10. While all use T-10 in the instruments, newer bikes use T-5 in the 4 indicators. Not as bright as a T-10 and you can't find non-polarized T-5's. You can shave a T-10 to fit. Or for the turn signal, use a T-5 and add 2 diodes as noted in a prior post on indicator LEDs.

OK, here is the schematic again:

I spent over an hour trying to get the fuel hoses to fit in the main petcock under the tank..

when I FINALLY get them in, I turn the main petcock to ON and guess what?

fuel dripping everywhere.

something so simple is frustrating and hard...i give up  :icon_sad:

Rode Junior around to try the progressives in the 2009 shocks (yes, 2009 shocks fit a 1994 or older bike). I like not nose diving when hard braking. Suzi also got new springs Saturday and she now rides better.
After ride, cleaned up Junior. Guess what? The rear brake calipers are a very dark purple! He was a purple bike. Never noticed that until in the sun and had all the old grunge cleaned off of them.
Cleaned Trey, too. Found his cush drive was really silver, not black. Amazing what you find when you clean off old dirt.
Gym closed at 4 so no gym training today which means back to the bike cave!

Been really busy this weekend.
Cleaned Trey and put on his shark fin

Junior is all LED. First time seeing him in the dark. Really bright! Although turn signal is not on, I popped out the green turn signal cap and replaced it with an amber one. I like that better. Oh, I went with warm white LEDs in the instruments. I think the warm color suits Junior since he is red. If he were blue like Trey, he would have had cool white like Trey has. Make the instruments color coordinated with the bike color.

Dang - should have hit the inside of the cowling with black paint while it was off. Oh, well. Only takes 30 seconds to remove so next weekend......

The night is still young. What else should I do?

OK, already saw that episode of Family Guy so went back to the cave with a nice glass of Cuvaison Zinfandel and put fog lights on Junior. Since fog lights mounted where reflectors go (on the newer forks - remember I put on 2009 forks onto 1994 Junior) I added the stick-on reflectors to the forks. Sweet!

OK, now I'm finished for the night.

I went out to my bike at work and noticed the tach drive cable had unscrewed itself completely and fallen off.  So I re-attached it, and the tacho worked fine again.  Should hopefully stop leaking oil now that I've tightened it up too.

adidas,...looking sweet!  I think I might try that idea too.  Very nice sir!

Did my front brakes last night,...

2010 Yamaha YZF-R125 - Stolen =(

mister

Picked up the bike from the mechanic who put in two new fork seals with 15 weight oil instead of the 10 weight it comes with, and he also affixed my Buddha Fork Brace, saving me the hassle of doing it. He put the old black brace back on top at my request.

Results: Far more stable / grounded cornering. No front end dip under braking. Nice  :thumb: And I'd say it's a little of both changes that made it so.

Junior got sick. Seemed his regulator was time to die. Blew the headlight twice! Put in a spare regulator and he's happy now.
Electronics do wear out and go bad. Or maybe he didn't like the extra load from the fog lights. Whatever - new regulator and now headlights don't blow out.

At least with the fog lights, when the headlight blew I was still technically street legal. They're LED and nice to have on Junior as a backup light source.

Testing with a meter - revving would go up to over 18 volts at the battery terminals. NOT a good thing. With replacement, never over 14 volts - like it should be.

Junior is now more better.

steezin_and_wheezin

got the leather on the modified solo seat stretched tight and stapled, license plate bracket redone(still not happy, but closer) and new chain guard installed. will get a photo tomorrow in the light
