One of my other bikes is a Honda VFR750 and they have a habit of eating R/R's, so there are many mods the guys do to keep them cool. My question is this, does the GS also burn them out regularly and what tried and tested mods have been done to fix this (pc fans, repositioning ect)? Thanks.

If you mean voltage regulator, they rarely ever go bad on a GS500.

Thanks, that's good to hear.

Rather than finding a better way to cool an inferior design (SCR-based R/R's that get hot), it makes more sense to just replace the R/R with a better design (non-SCR).

Mine is, I believe, an FH010 that I pulled off bike in my sig after my stock unit blew up. I paid about 50% more for a used part that I figured would last a lot longer than stock used.

With some slight clearancing on the part, it even bolted up in the factory location. I reused the stock harness.
