Okay all,

So like most of you know, I've just purchased my 93 GS.  She was semi maintained and well, I've got a couple questions.

I'm going to pour a touch of oil down each cylindar to help free them up for the first start(cause I'm not sure the last time she was started).  When I was at the dealer today (not your typical guys) he said to turn the crank manually to help loosen it up.  I totally understand what he means, but just to double check, the crank is on the left side of the bike correct?  In other words, where your left rearset is located.

Should I remove that cover to gain access to the crank shaft?

Or should I just say fawk it and crank her right up right away?

Thanks!!!

GRU

i think it's easyer to take out the spark plug's, drop some oil inside the cylinder and put it in 2 or 3 gear...then just push he bike around or spin the rear wheel....right?

The crank is on both sides, but farther foreward. Under the little round cover on the right, there is a 19 mm nut that you can turn the engine over with. It will be easier with the plugs out. You should only turn it clockwise.

Will oil leak out if I remove that lil cover!!??

why is your pic of a TL-S??????besides the obvious butt

The small engine cover on the brake side is the ignition cover.  It should be nice and dry; if not, your engine has serious issues.  Just remove the spark plugs, and turn the big nut in the middle (NOT the smaller concentric one) with the 19mm wrench clockwise.

Thanks guys! :thumb:

werase643, the chick with the TLS is because I used to own a TLS and unfortunately someone must have loved her more than me....

CAUSE THE BASTARDS TOOK HER!  All locked up in a locked garage!  Too bad the apt complex didn't lock the door next to mine!

Now we'll be heading to court since they turned down my claim.
