Engine Stalling Problem

So the last 2 days my engine has been idling very low. before that. I went about a 3-4 days without riding it. but I had turned it over on the 2nd or so day just to warm it up and move it around. A few problems have been. REALLY BAD Gas mileage. Oil lowerd from full to Low in about 1000 miles. when I'm at a stop if the bike doesn't stall out. when I go to throttle around 2rpm it sounds like something was stuck and you can hear it come unstuck. with a slight jolt. looks like there is small amounts of gas coming from where the drain screw is on the right side of the bike. also the bike doesn't have the "pull" as it once did when I first got it. Also the bike loves when in 3rd gear going to 4th it pops into neutral. now this is scary cause my 3-4th gear is normally around 45-50MPH.

My guesses. Something is wrong with my tranny, Fuel mixture is off, something is wrong with my petcock. I was recording with my camera in my bad when it stalled one time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USOm780ufJA here is the video. Plus I still think the bike sounds funny.

What year is the bike and what mileage? The loss of power and the jerk around 2k rpm sounds like it could be a clutch issue. Can't explain the oil loss and poor gas mileage though. Maybe a faulty petcock leaking into the case, and the oil just looks low? The gas leak could cause terrible mileage (obviously).

Video looks to me like it runs fine , no worries.

Are you saying you get a false neutral between 4 and 5 ?  Got to be authoritative with your shifts.

What kind of oil ? When was last change ?  Rotella T is a good choice, probably want to go no more than 4 k miles 'tween changes.  Oil condition and type can affect shifting.

" when I go to throttle around 2rpm it sounds like something was stuck and you can hear it come unstuck. with a slight jolt. "   = maybe clutch cable adjustment needed but i wouldn't worry about it unless it gets worse.

Looks / sounds like a nice stock bike - I would just keep riding it, a lot.

Well I did get an replace the clutch lever with a new stock GS one. could that be the problem with the cable? and how can I check/fix this. This problem almost killed me when I first try'd to push the bike passing a big truck, and it just wasn't catching up like it should so It took longer than expected and with on coming traffic I almost killed myself. due to this error. I would like to fix this. btw was passing at 45mph speed around 4rpm up to 6 and it took like 2 secs. Every second counts!

If you were doing 45 at around 4k rpm you were in the wrong gear. Sounds like you were in 5th. Tops you should have been in 4th, better to have been in 3rd and maybe change to 4th during the maneuver. Here, watch this video of a GS500 overtaking on a windy rural road to get an idea of RPM vs Engine Speed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pXUfvzSx2k (speedo is in kilometers - 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, 120 - miles equals kilometers/1.6). You won't find any pass done starting at 4k rpm.

Make sure u check the oil the same way each time (main stand, cold engine. unscrew, clean, rest on threads pull out and check)
Check your cables - throttle AND clutch - are lubed and dont get trapped anywhere at all when steering

Could be running rich - Check the spark plugs, and carbs - maybe carb floats are letting fuel in when bike is OFF.

Sorry that was a typo my bad. I was in 4th gear. going 45mph it wasn't pulling at all.. It hit 50MPH and I shoved it into 5th cause It wasn't going... I have a feeling my gears are bad or clutch cable is loose inside the tranny case.

GS500 clutch cable does not enter the 'tranny case'. It ends in a mechanism mounted in the sprocket cover.
