#1 Well First of all, I've read she is strongly starved of air. So possibly Add front air intake manifolds?
^ My idea. Add air intake in the front, To strongly increase the airflow into the engine, also replace pipe to allow better breathing out.

#2 starved of fuel. Maybe fuel injection?
^ My idea. Put new fuel injection system. custom built. Seems hard. Willing to do.

#3 Over all look. Outdated. To 80's-90's for me. IF It were 60's-70's or good 90's or 2000's I'd be fine.
^ My idea. Find someone who can do custom body work. Like 100% custom that is willing to work with YOU!

#4 Either Replace The engine all together. 650cc possibly?
^ My idea. Even tho It wont be a "500" I'm talking about stuff that deals with "okay, Ive been riding for a year. I need something with a little more UMPH!" Thats where number 5 comes in.

#5 Making the frame on the GS500 A little bigger.
^ My idea. To hold the 650cc engine, also if I don't do a new engine. to put the fuel injector and fit the front air intake.

#6 Re-gearing the bike all together.
^ My idea. Simple as it says.

#7 finding a way to stop the front end of the bike wanting to almost go forward when hitting the brakes.
^ My idea. Title says all again.

#8 New Gauges!
^ My idea. Including a LOW FUEL gauge. A clock, and possibly all digital gauges too. < maybe not all digital considering when something brakes, I want to be able to fix it.

#9 Better, Less butt hurt seats.
^ My idea. Seats that fit my riding style but also have a sense of style.

#10 Custom Cafe style/New age style handle bars
^ My idea. Nice handle bars with soft grips that don't ware down as much as my current ones.

Anyways those are my idea's on what to do with my GS500f. The community input would be greatly accepted.

ALSO: some of you would say "Why not just buy a new bike." and My reply would be, "Because I'm a bored 17 [almost 18] year old that has nothing better to do with his time than make money, love on girlfriend, and play with his bike"

Also A question, Lets say I buy an engine to replace the one I have. And It turns out to be stolen, or something like a stolen part out. Can I get in trouble for this? Lots of shady folks in florida. is why I ask the question. how could I prevent getting into this situation.

Also another question. Where could I buy motorcycle engines? Is there a website? or is my best bet to look localy?

ohgood

all the stuff you mentioned has been done before.

all that's stopping you is the time involved. generally, if there are too many things wrong with a machine, i change machines.  O0

1.   Change out the air box & filter to a lunchbox type
2.   Rejet the carbs, if you want fuel injection buy another bike as it would be cheaper
3.   Learn to do it yourself it's more fun and a lot of info on the net
4.   Buy another bike if you want more power, the GS is a fun riding bike not rocket ship
5.   I think someone on here has put a 650 on a GS without mods
6.   Change front sprocket to 15 tooth
7.   Change fork spring to Sonics and add heavier weight oil
8.   Lots of fun things to buy on Ebay
9.   Ebay has some great seats for the GS but I think they are made in Germany and cost around $400-$500
10.   Put clip-ons on and mods to the risers

Ummm  - I really love my GS, and I'm not saying that I haven't wished for a little more bike from time to time, but it is what it is, and it does it VERY well!  If you have that many apparent issues with your GS, then the most cost effective change you can make is to get another bike. Just sayin'...

mister

You want to put a 650 engine in and FI? Off load the GS and get a SV650 and be done with it. Make sure you get the Sport version which has a more aggressive riding position and so you will think people will think you look way cooler on the bike.  :thumb:

The seat is intrinsically comfy. Maybe you have a bony butt? Maybe the PO did something to the padding?

As for fuel starvation. Maybe you just need to pop the gas cap to let air flow better to see if your breather line is blocked? Is there an aftermarket fuel filter on the bike - they are known to cause fuel starvation.

Easier to get a different bike (like an SV650) which already had these things on it you so desire.

What is it you are looking for in terms of responses?  As ohgood stated; all the stuff you mentioned has been done before. Just search the forums for each one of the propsed "mods" you want to do...its literally ALL there.

Also A question, Lets say I buy an engine to replace the one I have. And It turns out to be stolen, or something like a stolen part out. Can I get in trouble for this? Lots of shady folks in florida. is why I ask the question. how could I prevent getting into this situation.
-Don't buy a stolen engine.

Also another question. Where could I buy motorcycle engines? Is there a website? or is my best bet to look localy?
- New or used? New=dealer/bike shop OEM crate.  Used= Classifieds/ebay/kijiji/craigslist etc.  A used bike.  Repo.  Salvage yard. Maybe this forum. etc etc

If you are looking for opinion as to whether you should DO the mods or not, to each his own...sounds like in addition to all the "love on your girlfriend" you have wads of cash and endless amounts of time and resources to acomplish said mods...so go nuts.  When I bought my GS I said I wouldn't put a dime into it aside from gas and oil. Too late.

To each his own, to start out with but, unless you are extremely focused and enjoy doing all the work (learning how to do the work) and spending a great deal of time on your 'project,' moreso than actually 'riding,' I'd get another bike that does these things you listed.

And the quote award goes to Mister for: "Make sure you get the Sport version which has a more aggressive riding position and so you will think people will think you look way cooler on the bike."

Well First of all I think I'm ready to fix the over all problems, than move onto cosmetic. Today I worked on my clutch, and adjusting it, Its finally tight, but its not doing what its suppose to do, the first 1/2 inch or so is the "friction zone" for the clutch, the rest is just space. So.. Gotta figure out where I went wrong. also @ghostrider_23 For number 3, you said you can do that yourself?! I'm up for any DIY as long as I know I can do it right. Could you point me to some websites or such for such DIY. If not my little fingers can google too. :)

For the breathing problem on the bike - Lunch box air filter? And would Dual exhaust Help the out breathing? Just a question.. Just trying to get 2/3 more HP outta the bike. so D**k heads stop pulling up to me, and pulling away knowing I can't catch up to them.. but Maybe what the rest of you said is right, just buy an SV650. But I don't wanna sell my bike just yet. till I learn more. and am 100% sure the bike has nothing wrong with it!

Now... time to google "GS500f Engine gasket set" and "GS500f Carburetor gasket set"

Trying to impress people you don't know and don't give a sh!t about?

Who cares about dickheads. Let them blow you off. Every green light is not a drag strip green you know. Just ride your own damn ride man and let them be d!ckheads. if people wanna blow me off at the lights, I let them. Much more relaxing and less stressful riding this way.

Damn right Mister, If you treat lights like a drag then this could happen to you (yes i know they are cars but the same thing if not worse could happen to riders).

Increase the frame size ? Add fuel injection ? Custom bodywork ?

Sounds like a good way to get rid of a lot of time and money and wind up with something worth less than you originally paid before you started hitting it with an ugly stick. Women never fail to find this attractive. You might also want to consider a bigger yard so you have room to start a collection of scrap-yard quality vehicles. This will be even more impressive. You are truly on the golden path of moto-righteousness.

Never had anyone talk down my GS500. usually, people talk about how they used to have one, loved it, and wished they still had it. Had someone outside Spuds Fish & Chips comment about how nice Suzi looked. Told me his 80 year old dad had a 1300, and felt a 1100 wasn't powerful enough. That was his dad - never did he say anything bad about having a 500 - his dad was wanting more power. He liked my GS!

If you love your bike - people will pick up on that. If you feel embarrassed about it around other people with bigger bikes, they pick up on that, too, and will feed your embarrassment.

If you're too embarrassed to be riding a GS500 - buy something else. Don't turn it into a home built POS. That would be even more embarrassing - what the F**K is that thing you're riding?

I complement their liter or 1300 bike and always speak with pride about my GS500. They appreciate the complement and respect me because I love my bike.

Screw the duckheads. Love your GS or get a different bike. Don't do an Island of Dr. Moreau experiment on it and hope it lives. You're only making an abomination against ______(fill in the god of your choice) when you should be out riding - proud to be on a GS500.

the mole

I think you could put a Triumph Rocket 3 engine in there if you stretched the frame just a little, that would get you the 2/3 more power you're after. You'd just have to add a couple of lengths of rail line on each side of the frame to support it. To stop the suspension sagging you'd just weld the rear shock solid and have a really cool hardtail. Chicks would dig it. Really. No, I mean it, really and truly. Don't forget to post some pics of the bike with all those assh0les looking like they wished they owned it.

In the end you might as well just build a bike from scratch. You haven't left anything untouched.

I Just might as well do that, the problem with that is. I prefer modding something already built. And its not like I have a machine shop available either, I'm just shooting out ideas guys, not all of it was meant as a To do list. Just something that could make the GS500f a little better if they ever came out with a newer model. Doubt it tho.

Never said I wasn't proud of my GS500f. But I wasn't talking about sport bikes pulling next to me and speeding off. More of the dumbF^$#s on Bigger cruisers thinking they are some hot@ss. I've only ever had 1 guy pull up to me and speed off on a sports bike, And he was riding in a thin jacket, has a nice ol' GSXR. and a Helmet < but not on his head. attached to the side of his bike. yup. He's one of those so I thought so little of the little tard that I laughed as he cut threw traffic.

But mostly I just out grow things quickly and sometimes gotta excuse me on my thoughts on somethings, sometimes I type to fast for my brain and it turns all adjasdjasd843uhasd8hjasd. Messy... :D

I also never said I didn't think my GS500 was bad. I love her. She's my first bike. How many people can say "I bought my first motorcycle when I was 17" I'm proud I get to learn on such a forgiving bike. My girlfriend does enjoy riding it too. I'm not spoiled in any way, I wish I was at times when I need new parts and such. But I do small odd jobs for a living, and make about 2 grand a month. Spend a lot on food tho ^_^ < Such a skinny guy, with a huge bite. Oh and spend it on gas. Ohh gas.. Ive ridden my GS500f almost completely stock 200 miles in 1 day, Just because I was "Bored" :D

Why are you letting the "the dumbF^$#s on Bigger cruisers thinking they are some hot@ss" influence your enjoyment of your GS500?

Do they really matter to your life? Why try to impress some stranger who you admit is a "dumbF^$#"? You're better than that. You said you love your bike. So why trash it?

Work to make your GS500 the best GS500 and one you are even more proud of. Don't turn it into a piece of sheite just for the sake of the dumbF^$#s's.

I did this to one butt ugly flat black GS500. I LOVE it! Meet Junior!

This is Junior when I bought him:

So do something cool for your bike. Don't ruin it to impress dumb f*&^ers and squids.

J_Walker

Cool, I would love to make my bike look better.. Actually the headlight cover you have. I have one sorta like it. from the PO but I can't find a damn way to mount it on my bike. Also. I would like to DIY paint job, but I've done spray paint one to many times. To much waiting, If you didn't know spray paint don't dry for about 3 months... so First question. Painting. I know how to paint, I actually paint on canvas for a small living. but not on motorcycles... How Could I do a basic like 3 tone paint job, not spend an arm and a leg tho? And not using spray paint? Also where in the hell do I get automotive clear coats?! :)

Best clear coat in the world is SprayMax 2k Clear. 2 part urethane paint in a spray can. $17-$24 a can depending on where you buy it.

Painting? Sounds like you can make one really cool bike with custom paint. Buy the book "How to paint your Motorcycle"
http://www.amazon.com/Paint-Your-Motorcycle-Motorbooks-Workshop/dp/0760320780/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1323162693&sr=8-1

You can get the paints to set up in a week or less with a little heat. Then apply the 2k Clear. Buff out in a day or two or do it the next weekend.

Headlight mount: Start a thread on how to mount it and include detailed photos. We can help you and show how others have been mounted.

J_Walker

@adidasguy Damnit know IF I could check the library for this book? Don't really have the money right now to be spending on a book.. Gotta pay off a bill here in a day or so..
