I just got a new Scorpion sealed battery for my 2004 GS.  I took the old one out, slapped the new one in there and hooked it up.  Turned the key and all the indicators light up really bright (much brighter than the old battery).  Then I tried to start it, and it just clicks and all the lights turn off.  I can't for the life of me figure out what's going on.  I swapped the old batter back in and after a little coercion, the bike started up again.  Back to the new battery, just a click.  Any ideas on what could possibly be causing this?

Did you charge your new battery before using it? Just a thought.

Yes, I charged the battery overnight.  Probably 12 hours total on the charger.  Just judging by the intensity of the indicator lights when it's hooked up, I don't think it's an issue of the battery being undercharged.

What kind of batter were you using when you installed it? Aunt Jemima or BisQuick? I've heard that using BisQuick while installing a battery can really muck things up inside the battery box. You might need to go with Aunt Jemima next time.  

Seriously though. A charge should fix it or just jump her off your car. Also, the clicking is the solenoid being unable to "hold" because the amperage is too low meaning the battery isn't completely charged.

LOL oh wow how did I do that?  Thanks for the tip.  I'll try jumping it off my truck in the morning.  I can't believe I didn't think of that.

If your batter won't hold you need to make it less runny...

It's a common mistake sir. Most people assume modern bisquick to be the same mix as the time-proven, Gone With the Wind maid recipe. No harm done. But now you know.

Oh... and remember.... milk in the handlebars  BUT not powdered milk, never use powdered milk, okay?

Don't forget the basics:  Are the battery terminals clean and tight?  Getting a good ground?

I bought the same battery in March. It was dead when it arrived so I put it on a battery charger for six hours. It seemed to work OK for a few months but at night I noticed the headlight brightness changing. I had the battery tested at NAPA last month and it failed (for some reason )

The battery no longer holds a charge and I will be replacing it again in the Spring. I may may have charged it wrong initially (2 amps on a standard battery charger) but I was not impressed.

My guess is the jump off the truck worked and now he's off riding it.

Work has been crazy for the last few days and I haven't even had a chance to try the jump yet.  Hopefully tonight!
