Came home after work yesterday to the parts bike blown over on its side

Definitely my own damn fault for leaving it on the center stand

No major damage, scuffed the right side cover, but i have a replacement. Drained the oil and changed filter, the auto store only had 2 quarts of the oil i wanted. So it will most likely be next week for first attempt at starting up.

Did the 48,000 service on the GS. Very odd, but the oil Had evidence of some water having been in it. My oil cap is always secure - in garage at home, in work parking lot under security camera at work. I am wondering if someone at work put some water in the oil (thinking it was radiator) as a joke or something. Strange one that.

Exhaust valves needed adjustment. All better now. Noticed the front wheel bearing is starting to show signs of needing to be replaced. Too many bumpy roads me thinks  ;)

The oil I was using Motul 300v has gone too high in price. So have put Mobile 1 in it this time. Ridden 70 clicks and so far I am very impressed with it. Gear changes smooth, no clunks. All good  :thumb:

@noworries - got pics of them on your bike?

Michael

Have you been working close to home lately? I know that if you do short runs on your bike it can leave water in your oil. It is caused by condensation in the crankcase from the engine cooling in hot, humid environment. Usually it boils off when you run your bike but it needs long trips to do this.

On a side note Supercheap have Penrite fully synthetic oil 10w-40w that says on the back it is ok for wet clutch bikes for $54. I am running it in my Duc at the moment and can't fault it.

I generally don't bother with short trips on it. For the last couple of months my commute has varied between a tad under 25 clicks and around 45 - depending where I've been working. And it's obviously gone through quite a few heat cycles to get that streaky look. Just darn puzzling cause it's the first time it has happened. Oh well, we'll see in another 6,000 how she looks ;)

Penrite. Yeah been using it my car for years. Great stuff in cars.

Michael

Hang on a sec. Yeah, there was all those 5 mile commutes daily for about a month. That coulda done it, and the water has been there since.

After returning from Munich, we had a couple days of really heavy rain in Seattle. Suzi, Junior and Trey all sat for 11 days without running. Gave all of them a ride today. They were happy. Those LiFe batteries are great. All started in 1 or 2 seconds. (I don't need to use battery tenders with LiFe batteries.)

Plan to spend the weekend in the Bike Cave with them and put the first parts onto Phenix. (Pix will be posted in the project section.)

Replaced air filter.  It was pretty easy.  Depending upon the way it performs, maybe a rejet.

Painted Flicks exhaust pipes. Hope the gaskets get in soon!

Always post for the parts whores. I have 10 gaskets on the shelf - just in case I need them.

I've changed my levers for some carbon looking ones. They are still ally underneath. Pics included as per usual. I added the last pic showing my current toys (minus the zed) together in my garage, just because I could.

What's that thing with buttons attached to a bracket on the left handlebar?

@ Unsane: Thanks. I'm currently working on getting it ready for a blue slip.

nice looking bike... with one exception. I think you have the full "touring" windshield?  IMO, it would look perfect with the lower replacement one.
Other than that, aces :)

OT but who cares... I'd love an Escort Van to do up. Ah, if only I had the room

Guy at work says I could use his place - room for 14 cars - but what do I do with it once it is restored? I'd still have no room. Hmm

OT:
@ Mister: Umm technically I'm doing up a 260Z and the escort is to be the second family car. HA! At the moment Phil (the escort) has a 3 sp auto (not for to much longer), the 2 litre pinto engine with a heavily ported head, stage 3 cam (does not work well with the auto), extractors, exhaust, modified points dizzy (this is the very next bit that will change), Koni adjustables at all four corners, suspension bushes all replaced, brakes freshly rebuilt with cross drilled rotors on the front, the 16 x 8 inch rims with 205 wide tyres and a FM/AM cassette deck with mono speaker! This is what I call a second car. Its as loud as most harley's.

Mind you the zed isn't exactly going to be a sane car either. It also lives in someone else's garage till it gets finished.

On Topic
@ Phil B: Yes that is a full touring windscreen. I like it cause it keeps me dry on the way to work. Anything above 50/60 and only my helmet and boots get wet. Generally I modify the bike for comfort or practicality. The levers was because me and a mates gate had a disagreement and I bent one. The carbon ones were the same price as a single lever.

mister

@Shaddow - ah, the 260z. Back in the 80s (does this show my age? I hope not), my mates sis (yeah, had a crush on her) was given one by her boss to drive. Are you kidding? Hey! Take us for a spin  :woohoo: Kinda wish I'd never sold my 1982 RX7 but circumstances of the time meant I had to. Boy that was a sweet car to drive, always got looks, yadda yadda yadda.

Ahhhh the old blat blat. Nothing like a rotary!
Some say that he submitted a $20000 expense claim for some gravel

And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.

@Shaddow...wow, you never hear of someone working on a 260Z...usually a 240Z or a 280Z or 280ZX...I thought there were issues with the 260 engine??  unless you aren't talking Datsun (Nissan)??  My dad had a 240Z when I was a kid, it was awesome and he loved it...but mom getting pregnant with my sister meant needing the family mobile and forcing dad to sell his toy...I never owned a sports car ('86 Camaro Berlinetta V6 was the closest)...I was a muscle car guy...I'm now changing my tune...

Sorry, back to our regular program...

I will be picking up a bike hoist today to get started on my bike tear down and rebuild...unseasonably warm here, I could be riding in the afternoons...

Need to get on the build...

Later.

@madjak30 In Australia 260Zs are fairly common as the 280Z never came here. The next model we got was the 280ZX. In the states the 260Z couldn't meet emissions. In Oz we didn't care. Most 260Z owners swap the carbies for SUs though cause they are a pile of dog crap. Mine has a buick 3800 and twin turbos now though, so that doesn't matter. I've had the 260Z longer than I've known my wife and I know which will go to the scrap yard first if there is a conflict. :D

Err back on topic, I've got nothing. I rode around in the rain lots yesterday... err....

madjak30

That's too bad...the 280Z was the first year for FI & a 5spd...previous were 4spd, no?

Anyway, I still love those cars...even the newer ZX versions...the new 370Z is HOT!!  IMHO of course...

Oh, and I did buy the bike jack...Sunday the journey begins... :woohoo:

Later.

Just a heads up the carbon look will last around a year then peel off  :icon_confused:

Flick's gaskets are in the rebuild begins. Well, when I can get some oil LOL~

Gave Trey a ride and came in long enough to win the picture game. Now going back out on Junior because it is too nice today. Ripping into the parts bike will wait for another day, though already selling parts from people asking for things.
