I pulled some good pistons and sent them along with the jug to Adidasguy. I took a video and put it in the stickied tutorial thread:

You knew, you commented in it. Or maybe an imposter?

Halfway down the stickies, with a happy face next to it

Painted and polished the front wheel...

  • Remove wheel, remove brake rotor and yellow rim tape
  • Apply paint stripper, wait 2 hours then wash away + wire brush
  • Sand & smooth the surface to be polished with 240g, 400g, 800g then 1200g
  • Coarse polish then fine polish till mirror finish
  • Prep surfaces to be painted and mask up those not to be painted
  • 4 coats of metallic silver then 3 coats of clear
  • Reassemble, take a few steps back and say "Wow that looks magic but holy shaZam! where did the day go... i still have to do the rear wheel yet!"

Experimented with some matte black 3M vinyl around the headlight as well...

Opinions? I reckon its OK! Will post better pics once the rear wheel is done

Looks real good but can I asked why you stripped the paint off and polished it all up only to paint it again? I would have just left them polished. Or are you talking about the spokes getting painted?

shonole

Looks like he just painted the spokes.   :dunno_black:

Question, how did the wheels look after just the paint stripper?  I'm seriously considering throwing some aircraft paint stripper on my wheels, as the paint is really rough, and peeling in places.  I'm not looking for a mirrored finish, just improvement.

They looked like raw cast aluminum.

The dish of the rim is polished and the centre is painted

Swapped out the incandescent globes for some red LEDs in the instrument cluster...

Relocated the licence plate directly onto the upper part of the fender (minus the OEM bracket) and installed LED licence plate bolts, hooked into the tail light wiring via bullet connectors...

and while I was out there with the camera, took a pic of the rear wheel LED light strips...

I also decided that having seen the smoke indicators I bought for the bike "in the flesh" that I don't like the look of them (photos didn't do them justice at all), so it's back to the drawing board.  :icon_rolleyes:

Kept them from getting dropped. They all got the day off. Snow day.
Rare for West Seattle. But as is typical: first rain then temp drops and snow comes. We get a ground layer of ice with snow on top.

Clear-coated my top plate/bar holders, speedo fascia, and gauge cutouts. Also got this:

3M Scotchlite material. Better than rimtape, and GRENADE!  :2guns:

We kinda got the same thing here on Saturday night...started with light snow (but ground temps were above freezing, so it melted)...the snow got heavier and it started to get colder...over night the snow continued (only ended up with about 2"), but the temps dropped to -30C (-22F)...so the roads were pretty deadly...

And it is -26C right now at 8:50am...so the temps haven't gone up at all...and I'm using that as my excuse to not work on my bike this weekend (truck too)...it had nothing to do with procrastination...nope, just too damn cold!!  :icon_rolleyes:

It's supposed to be wicked cold all week, over night lows in the -30s and highs in the mid -20s  :o

Maybe next weekend...

Later.

Nicely shot, that showed exactly what it needed to.  I like the way it's lit so the motor is pretty much all you see.

No pics, but I cleaned her up a bit, took the fairings and chain guard off, cleaned and lubed the chain, adjusted the chain tension for the first time, and inspected the spark plugs. Next up is checking and adjusting the valve clearances, and doing a good detailing. In general, I do more riding than cleaning so there's a good build up of dirt that needs to be taken care of. It's hard when you live in an apartment and don't have access to a garden hose. I also found a hose that runs between the '2ND AIR' doohicky and the front of the engine that is wearing through by rubbing on the cylinder head cover so I might replace that.

She's my first bike and I miss riding her. Can't wait for spring or at least for the salt to wash away and an above zero C day so I can go for a ride!! In the mean time I'll keep busy with minor maintenance work  :icon_mrgreen:

I put a master cylinder from a triumph speed triple on to replace my shitty one that was giving me soo much curry. Works great.

And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.
