Hi Everyone,

I am completely new to this forum. Me and a buddy of mine are working on a couple of new custom parts for our bikes and I am wanting to see if anyone would be interested in them. I ride and 2008 GS 500F and no matter how many times I adjust my mirrors I cant see behind me so, since I work in a machine shop and have full access to the machines in the evening I am going to make a set for myself and others if anyone is interested. I have a rough design right now but by the end of this week I should have a finished concept. I will be able to offer a variety of anodized finishes (color)as well plus custom lengths. My parter if you will has already made a set for his 2001 Superhawk. they will be made of 6061 aluminum and anodized or polished.

I also just started doing a little R&D for some frame sliders that wont require any large holes  being drilled in the fairing, but one project at a time.

If anyone is interested in either one of these please let me know. I will probably be able to offer the mirror extensions for right around $30-$40 a set which will include the required hardware. Also I you have any questions or just want to chat I will be checking this forum often or you can email me at dwigginsbill@yahoo.com which goes to my phone.

    Thanks,
         Biker Bill

Post in the welcome thread, who are you?

Pictures of the product?

Any rep from any other sites?

It took me a long time to buy anything from this site, and when I did it was from of one of the highest repped guys in the place. Build some rapport my friend!

And, welcome! :icon_mrgreen:

BikerBill

I put a little background about myself in the "Who are you and where you from forum"

I am not trying to push a product, heck I dont even have anything built yet. I just want to see if there is anyone else intersted in these. This is just something I am building for myself and and I thought I would see if I could sell a couple at the same time.

xunedeinx

Thanks  :thumb:

It seems like a lot on here either ditch the gs fairings, or get the gsxr mirrors with the turn signals. Give it a shot though, just dont expect to make a lot.

Things that would get a lot of interest...

Remake of the 89 clip ons, maybe out of billet AL.
Case covers
a proper torque bar (is that what you call it, the piece for the rear brake?) for those that did the katana rear wheel upgrade.
Rearsets

etc. stuff that you need to change, but is a pain sometimes to DIY, and would look awesome if it was machined out of a slab of AL.

Just my 2 pennies for the day!

BikerBill

xunedeinx- If you can provide me with a sketch of the clip on I will atleast look into it. Just by what I can see on a goolge search they look very simple.

My buddy is already working on MFG a rear set for his Super Hawk. the only thing is we need either detailed prints or something to get our hands to get the critical dimensions off of. Let me know.

  Thanks for the reply.

FYI: Mirror extenders are already available fro a couple companies. Both - for the "F" fairing mirrors and standard mirrors that stick on the handle bar controls.

T-Rex makes a slider that doesn't cut the fairing.

I found cutting the fairing puts the slider in the correct place if the bike falls over (been there- had it happen). Further back would not protect the front fairing and prevent the turn signals from punching through it.

Keep working. The more products we have, the better. Don't give up. Try for something better than what's there already.

BikerBill

Thanks for the reply adidasguy, I did see the extensions that are out there but first they look bulky and they are way over priced. I will get a pic in the next week or so and you all let me know what you think. Plus I dont think they offer them in any other lengths or color do they?

adidasguy

Nope. One size and black anodized (which fades in the sun).

BikerBill

Boy you sure know how to knock someone down. I assume you have a set?  I got on here to see what people though and if anyone was intersted not be knocked down by someone I dont even know. I may have got ahead of my self by posting something before I had something to show but my buddy did the same and all he got was possitive feedback.

FYI- I am NOT in this to make money, this is just an idea I was tossing around.

  To everyone else,

I will get you something to look at in a couple of days.

adidasguy

Not knocking you down. Just want you to be aware of what is already out there.
Many GS500 parts are hard to find, but are there.
By making you aware of what is there, you can look at them and make something better.
Like mirror extenders: there is only 1 size. Would be nice to have longer ones. They only come in black.
Some people have commented that they do not feel the t-rex are very strong. By looking at them, you can make something better.

That's all - know what's already there and make something better. Never intend to tell someone not to make GS500 parts.

xunedeinx

And all my intent was, was to get you to reproduce, or redesign, hard to find parts.

xunedeinx

Here is a good idea...

Design a top triple plate, made for the gsxr front end, to hold the stock gauges.

BikerBill

Thanks fo that! maybe I took it the wrong way. Anyway- I will get something put together and maybe I'll just send you a pair for evaluation. You seem to have a little say on here. Sound good?

By the way how do I post a pic?

xunedeinx

Who me?

I have no say, I'm just a person who likes to give back to the community that has helped me.

I also dont have a gsxr front end, and I have new clipons comming from adidasguy.

Want to design me some badass billet aluminum engine covers, maybe ill bite

adidasguy

This from the FAQ might help:
http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=15370.0

I'd be happy to try a set. My extenders have faded from black to golden, soon probably bare metal. I am known for finding some hard to find things all over the world. I've bought probably one of anything I have found just to see what it is and if I like it.

Giving you comments on what I like and dislike about certain frame sliders is there to help your design, never told you not to do it.

BikerBill

No not you adidasguy

Yeah Im not looking for full blown hog outs. sorry!

BikerBill

Thanks Adidasguy maybe we can get along..LOL.  I like honesty! Thanks for the link also.  :)

adidasguy

yes, xun was throwing out ideas. One thing I think we all would jump at no questions asked would be a round emblem. We have had right side covers but that leaves the left side fugley. The stock round emblems are like $15. If someone made a thin, round, engraved emblem we could put on both sides, that would be cool. Even if $20 or so each, that would be cool. And if they came in colors!

This is the whole cover - really cool. But nothing for the left side! If we had a round thing to stick on the left side - cool! Then the right side is no longer available, so we're stuck with OEM stick on labels.
Just throwing out ideas.... Don't know what machining capabilities you have access to.

Then a better gauge holder would be cool. I'd love one with space for extra buttons and a left and right turn indicator rather than just one for both directions. It can be tricky due to the plastic back cover.

You'll find most everyone here is pretty lay back and easy going. Only exception I can recall lately is one who hates it when we call the OEM clip-ons "clip-ons". Grinds his gears to call them "clip-ons". Call your mirror extenders "mirror clip-ons" and watch the fur fly!

BikerBill

I may be a little confused but maybe not. Are you asking for another "S" for the left side of that cover or a different label all together?
I have access to a waterjet that I can cut out any shape/design you want. I can make it out of aluminum and then anodize it to just about any color and then use a very durable double sided tape.   Let me know if I am way off...

xunedeinx

Can you remake the actual left and right side engine cases?

Id like it in brushed AL. Id give ya a couple hundred bucks for it, just cause itd be badass!
