see page 15 of wall of fame, under Klimber, the picture does not do it justice, it is nice a shinny

used a HVLP sprayer and real auto paint

to see how it used to look see page 10 of photos.

Color is technically Tangerine Pearl, but is basically metallic copper, Clearcoat is Solid as a rock.  difinately worth the hassle and the few extra bucks for the paint and clearcoat.

i'd insert before and after pictures but still haven't figured out how to do this? :dunno:

What pint was it that you used... and plastic... did you use it on plastic as well... Cos plastic paint needs to be able to flex a little... cos plastic bends etc when you even install it or take it off the bike.
Cool.

You did a great job.  I'm about to strip my bike and do the same thing.  I haven't quite decided on the color yet.  Either white or burgundy.  This will be my first time painting anything though.  Any tips that you picked up, or mistakes i should look out for?  i'll hit you with a couple questions, answer what you will.  How long does it take each piece to dry? How much sanding? To the bone or just score the paint?  Anything different about painting the plastics?

Thanks in advance, again great job!
LIFE should NOT be a journey to the GRAVE with the intention of arriving SAFELY in an attractive and well PRESERVED body, but rather to SKID in sideways, CIGAR in one hand, favorite beverage in the other, body thoroughly USED UP, totally WORN OUT, and screaming WOW - WHAT A RIDE!

OK, I'll bite:

You cannot escape our master plan!

klimber

steps taken

1. remove all parts to be painted
2.  sand em down nice and smooth, get down to the primer (mine was white, different primer colors depending on the color of the bike)
3.  grey primed, dried, wet sanded lightly
4.  set  up the booth and sprayer
5.  mixed the paint and catalyst(?) and sprayed, by the time i got to the last piece the first was ready for another coat, i just repeated till either the pieces looked like they had enough then finished off what was left of the quart of paint (not much)
6.  let dry for 1/2 hour
7.  wet sanded again very very very lightly with 2000 grit (did i mention very lightly)
8. applied decals
9.  mixed clear coat and catalyst(?)
10.  set up gun with the clear coat
11.  sprayed a tack coat on all, then by the time i got the the last piece the first was ready for a wet coat, seems no matter how much i sprayed it didn't run?  anyways, emptied the quart of clear on all pieces

12.  let them sit over night in the booth
13. next morning, loaded the carfully in the back of the truck and let them sit on our living room for two day.  i'm glad i did this because i could smell the solvents(?) for the first day

14.  lighly sanded with 2000 grit any imperfections and buffed them clear.
15.  then put the bike back together

three days total!

hardest part (honestly)  putting teh front tire back on (couldn't get the disc to slide in between the brake pads ) could be my own ineptitude.

cost,

hvlp sprayer - borowed
booth     - borrowed
paint and clear - ~$100
time with the bike  - priceless :)
