I'm so freaking PISSED off at my PO, lied about so much.. Took advantage of a newb, and ran like a fox with its tail between its legs! I want half my money back, Payed $2,000.. Not even worth $1,000! so much is wrong with my bike, and I got F'd over! I understand there isn't much I can do. I just wanted to post my frustrations on here. Somewhere at lease. Damn scumbag.. I still have his address... Might fix my bike up, and pay him a visit. Possibly take him camping :)

If it's any solace, you aren't the first newb to get burned on a bike and you won't be the last.  Victor (ver4) comes to mind, search his posts if you want to comiserate.  He overpayed for a bike that ended up needing an engine.  He did get some good use out of it once we got it running right.  I know it sucks but you have to be patient.  Have you done a compression test yet?  If not, maybe your bike isn't as bad as you think it is.  And hopefully it helps to know that you have others trying to help you out here.

J_Walker

No, Trust me. Glad there is a forum just for the gs500twins. Don't get me wrong, and I haven't got around to a compression test. out of most my friends, me being young. None have cars. and my motorcycle was my car... :/ so I can't really go far in search of a compression tester thingy.. I'll ask my father. its a long shot.. Really long... but may just work. If anything. If it isn't compression and I have to go back and look at my carbs, highly doubt cause my sparks on the "bad" side looked wetter than hell.. What exactly would I be looking at? nothing is clogged.. as far as my little eye can see. Bad carbs? Period? Need a new set? Or something else?
-Walker

BaltimoreGS

Carb wise, the idle jet would be the first thing I looked at (small jet).

It really sucks trying to get into something new when you don't know anything about it. It's just like when I had to replace my furnace a month ago, there's not a single thing I could do other than just listen to what the few furnace guys i talked to had to say, and write them a check. The only thing I hate worse than spending money, is spending money on something I don't really know about.

Hopefully it works out, these bikes aren't overly complicated. I felt super bad because i heard the kid who bought my bike was having some serious problems with it, but eventually my friend told me he was riding it with barely any oil in the engine, so... not my fault haha. Where exactly all the oil went, I have no idea, but I put fresh oil in it before I sold it, and I owned the bike for 6-7 years and never had any issues with it burning oil. i only got to ride my current bike about 2 weeks before I started having engine problems with it too. I think it's finally ready to go, but it's too bad things can't ever just work right when you buy them. Some people have no conscience.

Did ya test ride it before you bought it?

I couldn't my mother was like, Nope No helmet no riding... plus, even if I did. I had no idea how the bike was "suppose" to feel.. granted I should/could of done things differently. No matter.. Just have to get this jerk off to give me my money after he comes outta jail. and I should have enough to fix/buy anything that is wrong with my bike. Btw the jerk off isn't PO. sadly..

if anyone was wondering. The jerk off.. is my girlfriends oldest brother. Was once a jock in highschool. after highschool had a job, started smoking pot. Than for awhile he partied a lot. Drank so much, gave himself crohns. after that started smoking pot even more, Said it "helped" him. Started having more scumbag friends come over. started doing LSD and popping pills. <- recently. Started to lose it, Had a temper like a 4 year old. Crazy, Ruined his moms house. punching walls and stuff like that. Police got called, they gave him a "Warning" yeah, should of taken him than. Did the same thing 3 more times before The police got called again and arrested him finally. Took him to some detox place/jail.

But before that he had some scumbag friends over. and I had left some stuff at my girlfriends house. A total of 2,000 grand that I was trying to sell to make money for my bike. Him/friends took it. and ruined it. Now I'm after my money, Idc if he doesn't have a job, some of his friends do. So if they were apart of it. They better help him. cause unless he tells me who exactly to ask for the money for stealing and ruining my shet, well he's the only one I have to worry about than.

I'm about to beat someones knee caps in with a baseball bat, mobster style. If I don't get my money.. Srsly and what blows even more, is he/they took it because he thought it was his sisters!! WHAT THE HELL? YOU STEAL FROM YOUR OWN FAMILY NOW?

Little did he know it was mine, and that little scumbag better hand over my money in the next week. or I have some people to take camping...

Now I'm curious whats you all's thoughts on this subject matter? Should I be going after my money, or should I take a different approach? It's not like I have a job, and its really hard for me to find a stable one. Note: I do, do little jobs like paint houses, repair houses, help mow lawns. that kinda stuff. make a decent amount, enough for gas/some bills/food. but $2,000 is a lot of money, and I could prob fix everything on my bike the right way with that money.. Plus go on that trip to the keys.

I'm kinda not a nice person when people take stuff from me, not a very nice person when people take stuff from their own family either. No Respect for anyone if you steal from your own family...

Not going to get involved with your vigilante crusade but if you are somewhat close to Baltimore I could give you a hand with your bike one weekend.

Yeah yeah, Whatever. Talk it up big man. The police won't have a hard time finding premeditation even if you had the balls to kneecap someone with a baseball bat.

Sorry, what was the question again Rambo?

A couple of old sayings come to mind:

"Buyer beware"....really, when you are about to spend big bucks, get somebody to look at it first. Even if you had to pay a mechanic $50, you would have been ahead of the game by not buying this bike, or you could have offered $600 instead of $2000.....

In our airplane shop, we do what's called a "pre-buy" inspection.......costs a bundle....but saves the buyer maybe $60,000 or more  buy not buying trouble.

Small claims court?  Probably not an option, because in most states, once you bought it, you bought it.

Written agreement....

You should make a receipt with a written agreement that has wording such as, buying bike to be "as advertised"...then when the bike is not "as advertised", you can get your money back...but usually have to go to small claims court...But you need somthing in court to prove your case.  Without agrement in writing, you're hosed!

Buy from reputable dealer....sure you pay more...but you usually have recourse when you get a "dud" from a dealer.....first of all, good dealer will at least fix up crap bike to useable level....second, they usually offer at least a 30 day return policy of some sort.

Last saying,

We learn from our mistakes....but I'd rather learn for other people's mistakes..

Yeh gotta watch what you say as it will end up biting you in the a$$ even if it is over the internet.

how do you have 211 posts and not know anything about this bike yet?

"If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;"

An excerpt from Rudyard Kiplings poem "if", its pretty good.  Talks about moving on from things like a man and taking a bit of responsibility for your actions, say by maybe not knowing enough about bikes to make an educated decision as to what it needs when you went to purchase it.

If you'd like some help on diagnosing and fixing this bike, lets get to work!  Thats what most of us are on this forum for anyway, share tips/experiences about our bikes to enjoy them more.

But please leave the nonsensical ranting to the side.  You aren't by any chance from Jersey are you?  I recently helped a 20 year old on the side of the road on Sylvan Ave in front of the Unilever building with an Orange GS500 that he recently purchased.  He complained about it being a lemon much in the same way you are and based on your tone, I'd say there is a good chance we may be from the same area.

Uhm,
you don't get Crohn's from drinking alcohol! I've never been drunk and am blessed with the hidious disease that has no cure and some days worse than my heart problem. There have also been numerous studies stating that cannibis does help with inflammation, pain, and wasting.

Just a message from your friendly gstwin member!

I do know something about my bike. I just don't got the $$ to pay for it right now.. Gotta go out, and buy feeler gauges, Shims, calipers, valve shim tool, whole new engine gasket set, center stand, rear/front break caliper, rear break disc, new tires, rejet kit, various bolts, torque wrench. and some more stuff.. But Again, I need $$ to buy this stuff.. And that's what my rant is about, loosing money to jerk offs.. but I'd spend my money on my GS500f and that's why I'm posting it here.

So actually, yes my 200+ post, I do know what I "Need" Just can't do dickshit about it. So back off, really am upset about this money and all you people can do is bash me on whats not right about what I said,

PS: You can get crohn's from Drinking.. Look it up. Damages the lining of your upper bowel, causing ulcers.. Causing crohn's. Idk what doctor your talking too.. or what thread you read, but you CAN infact! get crohn's from drinking.

PS#2: No I'm from Florida, But I normally am a very passive person, but the fact that my birthday is coming up I'm very stressed out, and trying to get my GS500 fixed before my @ss gets kicked the hell out of my house, I want my bike fixed so I could have a mode of transportation.

PS#3: @ mister The police don't do crap around here, I got attacked by two guys when I was 13 they were like 25ish and called the police, turned around and said I was lying, and pinned everything back on me, so I have 0 Respect for any of the legal scumbags around here, if you want something done, quit having other people do it. and just do it yourself.. I'm sorry if I'm to "ignorant" for you people, but seems like some of you just don't understand. Idk if you've been outside lately, but just last night some guy was running around where I live with a 556 semi auto shooting like a mad man, cops were all over the place, he wasn't even caught, cops are stupid.. no respect. This country is falling apart, and all I wanna do is be able to live safely, has anyone wondered why I'm always posting at random times?? because I can't sleep 70% of the time. because of people outside my house, and inside. so I'm sorry some of you grew up in safe homes and had protective fathers, because the way you act. It seems to me, that you think the whole world is running smoothly right now, and people don't have any problems.

I can fix my shet, I was just ranting.

Rant over, Mods can close this if they like, I'm going back to my official thread.

Also consider that sometimes these problems may occur later.

I test rode my 500 and it worked just fine. It even worked well for a while.

A month later though, and the fuel system craps out incapacitating it for 2 months. But I'm sure your case was different.

I'm not sure how you didn't notice these things without even riding the bike? In honesty before getting a bike (esp. if you don't have money to afford mechanics) you really should have invested in a basic tool set. It would seem that you should be more pissed at yourself than the person who sold it to you. The things I quoted should have been screaming indicators not to buy! In all honesty if your so broke you can't even afford a car you can't afford a bike either. Sure, you can "own" it but proper upkeep and proper gear cost much more than just the money you save from gas. Especially if you don't have a job.

I would have offered to help you out but you consider people like me and those I work with as "Stupid". I hate stereotypes more than anything.

Have fun doing a top end rebuild! Just finished mine today.

Tires can wait, calipers still are "Decent" enough to stop me, tho they are getting old.. and need to be replaced, I knew the bike sat for some time outside. Idk where this thing about "Gear" came from? clearly you misread something, I own all my "gear" I also didn't say I didn't have a job, I said I didn't have a stable one.. there for I still have income it just goes to other things that are more important, Like food.. Bills, ect. I already had a basic tool set, some people don't own a machine shop either in their back yard...

"I would have offered to help you out but you consider people like me and those I work with as "Stupid". I hate stereotypes more than anything. " <-- The hell this come from?

Please, that last post, had nothing to do with what I was actually saying. And the fact your getting enraged over thing's I'm not even saying is actually entertaining to me.

Btw, only tools I have "needed" was calipers and a torque wrench, I've been borrowing a torque wrench from a friend actually, I just need to return it soon so figured i'd add that to my list of "things to get" of course the valve tool, but Who the hell buy's one of those, if they suspect they wouldn't need to use it? I'd like for someone to find me someone who goes out and buys a freaking valve tool, without even needing it?

The main rant was about how PO is a BS'r and I should of spent half of the money I payed him, on fixing the bike. Also the rant about the scumbag who owes me money, well that's fair game. Lemme steal 2 grand from any one of you, and lets see how you feel? Exactly, it only is your problems, when it happens to YOU, no one else. Sadly, I've donated my time to a local kids group, in hopes of finding a job there, sadly didn't happen. and now I have problems with my bike. I just spent the last 3 days painting 1/4 mile of a wall for 100 bucks, I am doing what I can to make money. even if it requires cheap labor. Also I'm 18 in almost 30 mins from now.. How can you even bash me on not having a job? I'm sorry I don't have rich parents that buy me what ever I want, and when ever I want it..
