About to buy a GS500F

Hey everyone, I'm about to buy a GS500F. The Bike was converted into an E looking model, and it has a different Headlight of course. I really like this model and the way the guy converted it, however, I had a question. Is this Headlight smaller than the GS500E headlight? And if so, can I or can't I put one of those Head Fairings on it?

Dizzledan

That is not the stock headlight (for the E model or the F model) and would not work with either models fairings. The GSE headlight is 7", that looks like a 5".

I'm not sure which fairing you are talking about - do you mean what is on my bike (click the first pic in my signature)?

I'd need a clearer/closer picture of the headlight mounting hardware itself to know if it has the stock mounting hardware.

As far as the size...that doesn't look like a GS500"E" headlight - which is what people use to convert to "E" or naked model bikes.

Be careful. The fact that it's been converted means that more than likely the fairings got damaged beyond repair which could possibly mean it's been crashed. Check to make sure the steering head bearings aren't out-of-whack. Put the bike on its center stand, have the owner press the back of the bike down to get the front wheel off the ground. Turn the triple tree to the left and then the right (basically turning the column from the front instead of the handlebars, if that makes sense) and see how easily it moves - if it feels "sloppy" then you know it's been damaged. It should also move with relative ease, and after a certain point, it should fall all the way to one side by itself. Also, be sure to check for any lateral play in the wheel. You can have the owner sit on the bike while it's on the center stand and lift the front end and hold the handlebars locked to either left or right to aid.

A test ride would let you know if anything was seriously wrong with the front end. If you're an experienced rider, you can let go of the handlebars while you're riding and see if it starts wobbling. Any wobbling or lack of stability is a sure sign it's been damaged. Just be careful!

Of course, it IS possible they just didn't like the way it looked before and decided to convert it. That isn't usually the case, and it never hurts to be cautious!

That headlight appears to be mounted on a bracket at the bottom of the light. A stock E model light has a bracket on the left and right side. Not sure if a fairing designed to mount on an E model would work without the proper brackets.

It MIGHT but it seems unlikely - the fairing mounts up to the same tabs that stick out for the headlight on an E model. Without those tabs, it would have nowhere to connect.  :dunno_black:

Hey guys thanks for the reply. And yes, I meant that fairing looking thing on your first picture. Wasn't too sure what it was called lol

And nah, this is My 2nd Bike. I've been searching around and I hadn't seen a GS500F built to an E design besides this one. However I noticed that the headlight wasn't the same. I would like the E Headlight and turn signals next to the headlight. Aswell as the mirrors. Does anybody know where I could get those for this 2004 Suzuki GS500F?

And I had the same thing in mind aswell. He did tell me the fairings were cracked. I'd have to check the rest of the bike to see if anything else got ruined. I went to see a Suzuki SV650 that had ruined forks and handlebars a month ago. I was able to tell instantly.

I hope this bike checks out ok because I really like the scheme (Besides the super small headlight)

Does anybody know? Or can I put a stock GS500E Headlight and turn signals?

If you are looking for/in need of a set of 4 stock OEM turn signals let me know.  I have a mint set of 4 (front/rear) from my 09.  PM me if you are interested.  Cheap :)

To add a headlight cowling, you will need the stock size headlight (can be OEM or aftermarket as long as correct size and mount) It will have to mount on the forks. There is a bracket for the forks and to that bracket is a triangle aluminum bracket which holds the headlight. The fork brackets also mount the front turn signals.

"F" turn signals will work. The front will be in a little close. If you can find the 2001-2002 front turn signals, they are the same type with a longer stalk so they stick out farther.

You can use "E" turn signals as the front are longer. However I personally prefer the "F" style and have them on all my bikes. I have been lucky to find the 2001-2002 front turn signals so I have the longer stalks.

ebay is a good source if no one here has any.

I have to check, but I probably have an extra set of front headlight/turn signal fork mounts. I'm out of extra headlights at the moment.

(We tend to buy from each other here to support our friends - even if sometimes we might find something a couple dollars cheaper on ebay. Usually we give better deals. Someone out there should have an extra headlight.)

You can see the headlight mounted on the blue bike (that's Trey) and Junior has the red headlight cowling.

yes you can, the stock gs500E headlight will fit. you will need the complete light as well as the mounting brackets.

stock light:

stock brackets:

The fork brackets are missing the triangular aluminum brackets that go from the fork mounts to hold the headlight.
