So I'm trying a new chain lube, its du pont's chain lube "safe with o-ring chains" "no splatter" Idk if its new over all, but its the first time I've seen this chain lube in my area. once I get my bike running i'll clean it up best I can. lube up my parts and head out for the local fair! WHOOAHOO! now only if I could get them shims fast enough!

This is one of those "no no" threads, J. Discussions about oil, chain lube, and gas are prohibited because people start arguing about "what's better" :P

Let us know how it goes. Do a bit of a review.

Anything is better than running it dry!

I'm sure you will have good results.  See http://www.webbikeworld.com/t2/motorcycle-chain-lube/dupont-teflon-chain-saver/

I have been using the multi-purpose stuff and find it much better than the Bel-Ray o-ring chain lube!

I've used chain wax since my dirt bike days.  Nice because it doesn't collect grit once dry and won't sling off on the wheels.

Cool sounds like a good choice I made. :D

I don't want no one fighting on my thread FYI. I'm doing the review on the product because I like writing/talking reviews. And my area that I live in, is very dusty. pretty badly too. so I picked this product because if its wax feature like baltimoreGS had stated.

plus it was 5 dollars :D

FUK YOU Jwalker!!!! We wants fighting and we'll have fighting. You're not the boss of us. Stop telling us about whether we can fight on your thread or not...

Our bikes have O-ring chain...this means the actual lube which lubes the moving parts is already in there, from the chain factory, and sealed in with the O-rings....

BUT...

You still gotta lube the "outside" of the chain regularly....The lube on the outside is more of a protection against corrosion (from water), and protects agains dirt, dust, and grit tyring to get between the O-rings, and offers a cushioning effect to reduce wear on the outside of the chain and on the sprockets.

IMHO the most imortant thing is to CLEAN the chain regularly.....this gets the grit and dirt off, (along with the old dirty lube).  Clean with Kerosene and a soft brush......Don't clean too violently or you could damage the o-rings.  If you always keep the chain clean and lubed, the next cleaning is just a matteryof slathering on the kerosene, and the dirt will drip right off into your cleaing trough...

BTW...I bought one of those "grunge brushes"...looked like a good invention....I don't like it!  Bristles are way too stiff and course for my liking.....I use a long handle artists brush, 3/4" with with soft bristles......I also made up a soft bristle toothbrush, which I bent, (with heat gun), to reach the "back" of the chain....

Again the more kerosene the better, less scrubbing, and more dripping....

You dry off with soft cloth or shop towel, and let stand to dry for a while before applying lube....applying lube over wet kerosene will dilute the lube.

Really, any brand of lube is OK......you can even use 90 w gear oil..some even use 30w motor oil...
BUT....

Modern lube for chains typicaly "goes on wet" and then sort of "gels" ......the idea is for the lube to encase and protect the chain, and not get flung off...during riding.  Using straight oil, it remains "wet" and flings off, and makes a real mess.....So any of the "no fling" spray type lube is going to work well.

Clean and lube the chain every 500 miles!  Clean it after riding in the rain, or if riding in dusty conditions.....

My OEM chain is at 21,000 miles and still going strong....

I use Honda Chain lube...it goes on wet, and dries to a white gel...

This thread has me wondering what kind of oil I should use(?). Anyone have an opinion on synthetic?
