Handlebar Help?

Hey all,

I've been lurking on the site for awhile and have learned much from the resources here.  Thanks!
I have a question about my 94 GS.  After a minor low side last year, I replaced a bent handlebar.  Ever since then, the entire handlebar rocks slightly in the upple triple clamp. I've had two shops look at it, and neither seemed to think it's a problem.  It bothers me though, as the play is greater on one side then the other, making it seem unbalanced under heavy braking/cornering.  Anyone else encounter this, or have suggestions or thoughts on how to tighten it up?
Cheers,
Sean

Does the bar actually turn in the clamps or is it the whole top clamp (tchnically it's not the top clamp..its what bolts to the top clamp...)... The whole bracket that the bars bolt into...

if it's the top bracket...it is not rigid mounted ...it has rubber bushings or something between the plate and top clamp to dampen some vibrations out of the bars...

You may just need to tighten them down ...(the clamps and or the plate...).

Good luck,
When the 2nd Amendment is lost, the rest will soon follow.

i am looking at the clymer book and if looks (in there drawing) like on the handlebars, under the clamps, theres what looks like teeth in the bars for grip. does your bars have these? if not maybe they are to thin os slip without them.were they new? maybe they have a worn side if not or maybe there defective. it doesn't show any rubber under the clamps in this book. but if there not there and should be then look and make sure both are on and on strait. also there is from what the book shows a cotter pin and a bolt with washers under the handlebar plate if you lost or forgot to put the pin on one of the nuts may have become lose. and i would check to make sure you have the same amount of washers on both sides and in the same place. :dunno:  its all i can think of,but what do i know? i'm new at this

Thanks for the feedback,
Yeah, it's that whole bracket that moves on the rubber mounts/bushings.
The bars stay tight in the bracket itself.
It's tightened up as much as it will go...I'm wondering if maybe the rubber is compressed or worn out...maybe replacing these with new would do the trick?
One mechanic told me it's supposed to have play in it for shock absorption. That'd be easier to live with if it was evenly distirbuted on both sides, and not quite as much movement.  Anyone else have a GS with bars that move like this?

Is it so loose that it's "knocking" or does it just move around as though the rubber mounts are compressing.  Knocking would be not be good.

I can't think of why it would be loose if the bolts are tight.  Unless the rubber parts are worn or broken (which could have happened if the bike was low sided).
