My GSF stats

2006
bought new in 06
just over 6k miles
all original expendable parts: tires, chain, sprockets, fork oil

upgrades
katana rear shock
woodcraft clip ons
Yoshi tri oval
1 step larger main jets
buell turnsignals front/rear
free custom scratches


been on a large GSXR for the last 2.5 years. so this guys has been a garage queen.

putting it back on the street for commuting duty.
also changing it up

Plans:
R6 shock-got it for 40 bucks w/spacer
taking her clothes off making it NAKED
chopping the tail until i can source a the exact tail section i want.
katana rear rim has been in a box for almost 4 years. mounting that soon.
under mount rear caliper give the swing arm a new look.



QUESTION OF THE DAY:
can i get away with mounting a 120/60? continental MOTION
the tire was free(my favorite price)

can i safely mount it? clearance issues?

will the matching 160/60 fit the swing arm with the katana rim?

As for the front changing the size will affect your speedo reading. GSJack is the tyre guy on here. Hopefully he will chime in on this question and point you in the right direction.

I thought I had that post memorized. Didn't remember he had the brand fitment list on there.

I hope he does chime in the conti motions are fairly new. Newer than the link above.

I actually bought the rim from someone here. I came with the brake arm and the washers for the sprocket hub. So its ready to mount.

As as far as pics there is no excuse, my deepest apologies. I'm sure I can come up with some olds ones but I don't have anything current.

Currently the bike is outside under a cover, until I clean out the garage I only have space for 2 bikes not 3 :(

The 120/60 Motion is made for fitment on a 3.5" rim and not approved by Conti for a 3.0" rim (GS size) but there are enough people running them on the GS500 and Ninja 500 3.0" front rims that I wouldn't be too concerned about it.  I ran a 120/70 Avon Roadrider bias tire for a while and then went back to a 110/70 Roadrider and liked the feel of the 110/70 much better, quite different from radials though.  Anyway the tire should fit OK and the speedo difference mentioned is a non issue, it's only a little larger than a 11070 and still smaller in dia than the 110/80 tires I've run.

The 160/60 rear M-1 that Turd used on a Kat 4.5" rim in the reference thread is 160 mm wide on it's 5.5" measuring rim so it would be only about 150 mm wide on a 4.5" rim and the Motion 160/60 is 161 mm wide on a 4.5" measuring rim so you would have more of an interference problem with the chain than Turd had.  Those M-1 tires ran a bit narrower than standard and I recall the next GStwinner that tried it got a wider Dunlop 160 tire that didn't work out for him and he ended up using a 150 instead on his 4.5" Kat rim.  Personally I don't like the idea of shimming out the rear sprocket only which causes missalignment of the sprockets and I wouldn't do it myself if I wanted long life from the setup.  Keep in mind that a 150 tire designed for a 4.0" rim would be about 155 mm wide on a 4.5" rim and that's what Suzuki did with the late model Kats.
