What is this thing for?

I finally got around to changing my dead battery and decided to replace the battery tender as well. When I bought the bike three years ago the previous owner had installed an incredibly cheap battery tender under the bar beneath the seat between the seat release mechanism and the rear grab bar. What is that bar for? Is it for installing a battery tender or something else?

On a side note, in my tank bag I carry a full set of tools, bungee cords, tie down straps, and replacement bulbs. One of the reasons I carry tools in the tank bag is because I didn't have the original tool kit...or so I thought. Once I pulled the old tender out of the way there it was sitting under a rubber strap. Looks brand new without a hint of rust. Inside the kit is a full set of metric allen wrenches. Were they originally part of the kit or added by a previous owner?

I've always wanted to change the rear spring settings over the past three years but didn't because I didn't have the adjustment tool and was too cheap/lazy to buy a tool.

if you mean those little ears sticking up between the seat latch and the rear grab bar - they're just there. Some kind of growth or tumor. You see them on both frames. Like an appendix: serves no real purpose that anyone knows of, but we all have one.  :dunno_black:

basic tool kit does not have a full set of allen wrenches. Looks like you scored!  :woohoo:

Yep...those little ears. On my bike there is a rusty plate between those ears held on with two sheet metal screws. The previous owner had velcro'd a battery tender under the bar. Have to admit the setup looked pretty good (minus the rust)...it just wasn't a very good battery tender.

I saw those tool kits on eBay before I posted but my kit has several extra tools in it besides those in the eBay pictures.

i'd have to look, but aren't there some pads on the bottom of the seat that sit on those tabs?

Cool...then I have the world's only battery tender connector bar mod for the GS5. I'm willing to sell it for $500 shipped. For $600 will throw in the two sheet metal screws that secure it in place.

For the GS500 owner that has everything. Serious inquiries only please.

I'd give you $550 and not a penny more, if you include shipping, and the bike attached to this rare tender.
