Can someone please explain to me what the settings are on my 06 gs 500. All I've ever had are Honda's and they have on,off and reserve which is self explanatory. What is the difference between on and primary on this bike. Also, I heard you shouldn't mess with it if the bike is going to sit for awhile. Thanks for the help.

ON and RESERVE require a vacuum signal from the engine to flow fuel.  PRIME bypasses the vacuum portion and flows fuel from the reserve level of the tank petcock with the engine off.  PRIME is used when the carb float bowls are empty so they can refill, don't leave the bike in the PRIME setting.

Because the float needles are very weak and leaving the petcock in the "PRI" position will inevitably flood your motor with gas, which if you aren't aware, is extremely bad!

Thanks for the info guys. I guess I was under the impression it was primary not prime.
