Sorry, but I'm really not a big fan of "c@%t" Maybe I should just go around and call every man sperm donor. I also find it in poor taste when guys tell other guys to take "As does skirt, girls blouse and so on" I know many women myself included that can and do harder work than most men. As a woman that so called "works in a man's world" your misogyny does get old real quick.

I'll challenge any manly man on here to a challenge. Starting with your bike (gs500) in running order get your carbs completely off the bike and on the work bench with nothing broken. In less than 15 minutes with a "girls blouse" whatever the hell that is.

I would put up the challenge if I knew what a "carb" was? :icon_lol:

Not much to add to this little debate but two minor points, firstly context is everything, almost any adjective could be twisted or taken "wrongly" depending on it's use. Think irony!

National/ Regional variations, in a small country like the UK a word can be used differently in different regions, the larger the country the more scope for difference in interpretation. When I worked in the Port we provided special transport arrangements for people with various difficulties (widely abused but that's another story) originally called the disabled or disability arrangements, I was told the Americans found the word "Disabled" offensive, I don't know if that's correct or not but someone thought so.

Anyone not too sure about the Australian point of view should check out  D.I.L.L.I.G.A.F  / Kevin Bloody  Wilson on u-tube. but not if you are liable to get offended!

In Cricket the testicular guard, or Box, was introduced in 1874. The helmet was introduced in 1974. Is there a message??

coda's avatar? Good point.

A better example. . .
Four GS500 guys are sitting in a diner (small restaurant) taking a lunch break joking around and using the term "retard" in a joking, derogatory manner.
All is fine until a mother walks into the diner with a 25 year old retarded son that she is caring for.
Then it's not much of a joke.  :icon_neutral:

I think it's best to accept that some people have limitations, and to work with that in the most respectful manner you can.

I have lived with and cared for a couple of relatives with brain injuries, alzheimers and other similar challenges. Their day-to-day behaviour is similar to that of someone with a genetic mental disability from birth ~ often irrational and nearly always unpredictable.

And it is hard not to resent them a little bit for that some days, and this is where I think the sensitivity to the word 'retard' comes from ~ because it has been used in anger and frustration regarding another otherwise benign human being who perhaps through no particular fault of their own now has a far more limited ability to interact appropriately with others or manage their own affairs.

SAFE-T

On the other hand, I've always thought the term 'handicapable' had more to do with assauging the guilt of non-handicapped people who were bothered by the devaluation implied by society.

I say let people be retarded and handicapped and treat them with dignity to the best of our ability. It's time to accept that some things are what they are, and move on.

SAFE-T

Also, I wholly agree with those who would not tolerate someone demeaning another person because of their disability, or their shape, or their looks, or their popularity, their sexual orientation or their racial origin. And not because I'm some tree-hugging peacenik ~ I don't like a lot of things about a lot of people, but I also don't think it's acceptable to berate people for things that may or may not be fully within their means to control.

It doesnt offend me because of how it's used so often (And the fact that I am not mentally challenged (...well..medically diagnosed  :D)).

It's like calling someone a fa---t. It's used so much on the internet, it's now more of a general insult.

that is also an english term for a cigarette. uere in the US if i were to say, " im going to go smoke a faggot" someone would think a homosexuals life is in danger. however in the UK, if i said same thing, it really only means, that im going to go smoke a cigarette. and mary. theres plent of women who will do the same things guys do. ( which you were referring to) the term sperm donor is used alot in canada. to describe a few things, 1 a father having nothing to do with his offspring, or one where the woman chooses he have nothing to do with it. Or he was just there for that reason, a sperm donor. now regarding your challenge mary. since i no longer own a gs500, sold last one previous to moms death. id offer ANY challenge. wearing ANYTHING in white. from a formal blouse/ to a tshirt. IF someone can get the job done without getting the shirt dirty. id say that works. ( sweat wont count against person/challenger. ) id say that would be a bit more fair.

i stand corected
"Originally confined to the United States,[5] the use of the words "nancy boy" and "faggot" as epithets for ghey men has spread elsewhere in the English-speaking world, but the extent to which they are used in this sense has varied outside the context of imported US popular culture. The words "alternative lifestyle man", "homo", and "poof" are all still in common use in the UK, and some other countries, as pejorative terms for ghey men. The words "nancy boy" and "faggot", moreover, still have other meanings in the British Isles and other Commonwealth societies. In particular, "faggot" is still used to refer to a kind of meatball, and "nancy boy" is common as a slang word for "cigarette"."

Who would be offending more if I called someone a retarded faggot?  :flipoff:

Here being called a nancy boy does not necessarily mean you are gey but a little feminine. My Boss who is old school still uses the term "I gotta go smoke a nancy boy" which means he needs a cigarette.
