Hi All,

I've been reading this forum for about a year now, and finally decided to join.

After a long hiatus from riding anything with two wheels, I couldn't fight the urge any longer and bought a bone stock 2007 gs500f late last summer.  I made the choice to get the gs based on a) still considering myself a green rider and b) because of all the great info on this site.

Well, I have to say that making that purchase was one of my best decisions!  I rode that thing every chance I got until the snow started to fly.  Now, coming out of another Buffalo winter, I can't wait to get back on the thing.

I've done a few minor mods (minor fenderectomy, LEDs, blacked out windscreen).  Now, with the inspiration of this forum, I'm hooked and itching to dig deeper into the bike.  Next on the list is shimming the carb needles, swapping out for a katana shock and putting on a new exhaust.

Thanks for all the great info on this site and thanks in advance for the n00b questions I'm sure I'll be asking along the way.

Well, like a lot of things in my life, I got into motorcycling in a pretty bass ackwards way.  When I was young and foolish, I bought an old ironhead Sportster from a friend of a friend...with no motorcycle license and very little riding experience.  I then took the MSF course and confirmed that I loved motorcycling, but that didn't solve the issue of having no garage, tools, expertise or money to give the bike the attention it needed.  I didn't get to ride much as the bike sat in various friends' garages in various states of mechanical soundness.  Finally, after getting married and looking to buy a house, I ended up selling the bike.

Fast forward a few years where I'm not as young and a *little* less foolish...I can't fight the motorcycling itch any longer.  This time, rather than go buy a liter sportbike because they look cool, I actually do my homework to find a bike I can learn on and have some fun on.....that's when I came across this corner of the internet.

Welcome.  With the mods you're planning, you'll have no trouble fitting in with this group of misfits.  In Illinois, it was almost like we didn't have a winter.  Kept preparing to winterize the bike only to throw the battery back in it and ride anytime the temp got above 35.  It's going to be 65 today and I'm finding excuses to jet from the office every chance I get.
Ride to live; live to ride.

Yeah, I like tearing things apart and doing mechanical work myself...even if I don't always know what I'm doing.  I call it adventurous.  My wife calls it cheap.

I didn't get any pics after work....cuz I was too busy finally riding the thing!  We had a beautiful day here in western New York....if only this weather would stick around.

haha, I call it self sufficiency, but it's definitely a skill I've gained from being cheap. Other people can also be such a pain when you pay them to do something. I got a furnace replaced around new years and I'm still dealing with the contractor. Fixing things yourself is way less stressful.

Also, I don't mind newb questions, they're the easy ones to answer  :thumb:
