Happening for a month or so now.

I'll be pulling away in first and suddenly it will slip into neutral and give off an almight roar.

Always happens in 1st or 2nd. Both will slip into neutral on occasion, doesn't happen all the time, just annoyingly it does happen.

Is there any explanation for this?


P.S also noticed the other day i parked the bike up into neutral, as i got off the neutral light went out and it had slipped into first... the bike was completely stationary..

What oil are you running? You may have to change your brand to something else.

Don't trust the neutral light - there's a distinct feel on the shift lever when it's in neutral. My guess is that it was a "false neutral". My DL1000 was like that - you could "trick" the bike and make it think it was in neutral - meaning you could make the light come on but it would be between 2nd and neutral - which is obviously a dangerous situation.

Try kicking the lever up harder - usually when people complain about bikes slipping out of gear it's because they aren't giving the lever a firm enough lift.

I've found a proper pair of riding boots helps tremendously with this.  The few times I rode with tennis shoes, I had to put significantly more pressure to get the bike into gear.

Yep, I had that issue on my KLR - tennis shoes just would not cut it - the "neutral zone" on that bike was ridiculously big. Every time I rode with regular shoes I was missing second because of how far you had to lift the lever to get it in.

Another thing is...be sure the shift lever is in the correct position - having it too high makes it almost impossible to give a firm upshift.

If you're not getting it firmly into gear it will.

Sounds like possibly an internal problem to me.  I'd definitely try swapping brands of oil first.

If you're not getting it firmly into gear it will.

Could be this.

On mine, I have to really firmly kick it up from 4th to 5th. If I give it a small baby tug, it'll pop back down into 4th after a few seconds
