I have throttle cable that seems to not fit. Or maybe my cable isn't a GS cable god knows I got mystery parts from 300 bikes lying round.
OK so ... well anyway someone could help sort out my problem, has anyone managed to fit an 89-00 cable onto a 01-02 GS carb ?

Considering the 89-00 is a single throttle cable and 2001+ all show dual throttle cables, My guess is it will not fit.

Im assuming they came in then?

That isn't quite right. You can run the 2 cable carb with just the opening cable. However I think the inner cable needs to be about 1.5 inch longer, unless I am not using a GS cable. I should have a definite answer tomorow though.

Comparing 89-00 and newer cable.
The shiny cable is the old style one (a new MotionPro cable for 89-00) and  the older looking one is the pull cable from 2001+
The newer style cable is slightly longer as you can see. The angle at the bars is 90* on the new style compared with 45* but that should only affect the cable routing. The actual steel cable is 1" longer on the newer style.

Oh yes my friend you nailed it.
Its more due to the carrier bracket on the newer carb, its mounted level with the top of the carb almost. The older one was 1/2 way down between the carbs. My calculation was 1.5", maybe there is a slight difference on where it goes in the throttle tube/switch also making it work with 1/2" less, but I plan to run 89-00 for that, essentially I need an extra 1.5 by my calculation.
I probably will make a custom cable. Easier, faster and chaper around here than getting a new cable.
Now I might as well check the choke cable too and get both made in 1 sweep.

UPDATE:  OK, OK, I can take a hint. I'll put the cables back in the Bike Cave
