Well Awhile ago I said I was looking for a bigger bike and well found a few but am not exactly sure where they stand $$ wise.

first is a 2002  Bandit 1200  with 4,500mi and they want $5,600,  In great condition.

second is a 1995 yamaha UYM ???  with 30,000 mi and they want $3,000 for it.  fairly good condition. (just old)

I am curious what you guys think of these and if anyone knows what the hell a UYM is?  (it looks like a YZF600)

Thanks and

i think what they want is a bit high seeing that an 03 leftover at the local suzuki dealer that was a demo with 2000 or so miles was $6000 out the door. you can do better on a bandit. no clue though as to the yamaha. kinda  like when i saw a 96 seca2 the other day, couldn't tell what it was for a few seconds. good luck though... i was at the local kawasaki dealer today and saw a brand spankin new larson replica in silver 1000 that blew me away, wish i had eight grand to throw around.

UYM... universal yamaha motorcycle... A seca fits the bill... maybe someone slapped a fairing on it. Just to throw my hat in the ring... I have an eli 1000... basically will suck the paint off a bandit in a straight line... Ridden both... the eli gets beaten by a Vmax... nothing else in straight line roll on's... from the 90's ... Turns... we dont need no steenking turns... and I have 1 for sale... 2750 ... 3000 to the public... but for GS listers... 2750. Delivery to North FL is free. 18K miles, custom pipe and nice condition. Brand new 200 rear tire... yes it takes a 200 and looks bad ass... Mine has shaved seat... and in some cases looke like it snuck out of a madmax movie... or some deranged mecahnic's shop... not like it came from a factory... of course its nearly stock... Just air box and pipe mods other than seat.
Cool.

For that price range, you can get a SV-S or even a TL-S in great condition. I think they are high but then I do not care for the Bandit.
Common sense in not very common.

pantablo

too high for the bandit. you can find NEW leftovers for that price. no idea on the other one.

2002 FZ1 for $6,300 with 3k miles

I was just looking again and found this one at a local dealer.  Looks like its in good condition.  Msrp is $8600,  KBB is $6000.

I am thinking this might be the one I am going to get but just want to see what others think.

That prices sounds fairly reasonable compared to the others you posted.  If that 95 UYM is a seca II, the price is still to high.

I would try finding a YFY600R or an R6, but that's me. Like dude said, depends on what you are looking for.
The FZ1 is nice, got pretty good reviews in the 600 class, second next to the SV.  Good luck.

JasonB

FZ1 is actually the R1 engine in that frame not the FZ6 which is the R6 engine.

Thats a big jump from the GS!

You can get a decent condition Honda F2 for about $3K or less if you look hard enough. Not a bad bike at all.

A riding pal of mine has a '86 Yamaha 700 (a UYM, styled like a cruiser, positioned like a standard, engine of a sportbike).  Its not much to look at, and it weights like 500 lbs, but that 700cc I4 does give it some zip.

Jeff -

The FZ1 is a great all-around bike.  Kind of like a GS500 on steroids.  It has a longish wheel base  and more relaxed geometry, compared to sportbikes, so it is nice and stable.  It's not exactly flickable, but it holds its own in the twisties.  You can also do a cross-country trip on it without much trouble.  Insurance is also pretty reasonable (especially considering the performance).  Just remember it has about 3 times the rear wheel HP that the GS has so watch your right hand until you get use to it.

$6300 is an alright price for a 2002 in great condition.  I'm not sure about FL, but in Ohio, you see these things sitting in the showroom for long periods of time, so there might be alot of room for negotiation.  Good luck!

That's nuts!  Dude if you're looking to spend mid $6k, get a brand new F4i :thumb:

I think the FZ1 is a good choice :)  Been ridden in Florida I suppose so except for sun damage, there isn't too much weathering.  I guess you'd like a bike with a more comfortable position rather than a sportbike, but still gets around the corners.  A FZ1 is much cooler than a little CBR    and you can go touring and stuff on it too!  As always, just take it slow on the throttle...
