Hey no fair Oz: you did one of those "infomercial" shoots, where you show before and after, that are competely incomperable! :P  give us the "after" in the same pose and lighting!!  :police:

Another weekend come and gone, yet still no sign of my certified letter... starting to believe the USPS and DMV are in cahoots to push me over the edge!!
if yer binders ain't squeakin, you ain't tweakin!

Gave her a wash, clay bar, and three step wax/polish. Took off the mirrors....still need to get new ones (broke one over the winter). Now I just need to learn how to change the oil and clean the chain.

Don't argue with an 18wheeler.

i rode it! yes finally after months of cold storage

wesdabest787

just started taking off all fairings of the gs500f trying to turn it into more a streetfighter look.  Any good threads out there? or good advice? thanks!!!

Phil B

What's to know? just start unclipping/unscrewing :)

but WE would like to know, whereabouts you are located, and whether you'd be interested in selling your fairings.
;)

wesdabest787

i'm from missouri and I will definatley be interested in selling fairings as long as I like the naked feel.  How much are they worth? and how do i go about putting on a new headlight for cheap?

adidasguy

Good luck selling them. I haven't been able to get rid of 2 sets of fairings. If there are people that want them, I have no idea who they are.

Putting on a different headlight is easy. There have been a number of threads on it. Basically put headlight brackets on fork and attach new headlight and plug it in.

Changed the oil, lubed the chain, checked tire pressure (24/30) =X

We don't really know what we're doing and even when we do, it doesn't seem to help. Bono

Zwerski

Buell Blast headlight fairing. Homemade brackets.

I really Really REALLY do not like those things at all....

So what did I do to my bike today?

Ordered new tires. Went with the BT45's but a 120/70/17 front and 140/70/17 rear. Hope to have them on Thurs and on this weekend.
I'm missing all this great riding weather before the heat shows up.

being  a parts whore who searches the world.......... (yes, I do have my secret places to search and bvelieve me - I worked HARD to find them!)

I found I can get the Euro type 1's - the cost? Sit on the crapper - $500! makes sense to refurbish used ones. bars are another tissue as most used bars are bent or have a broken screw in the end.

I really lucked out getting a new set of 89's for $150. They were in Israel, believe it or not! And I got the only 3 sets available. There may not be any more new old stock ( NOS ) 1989's available. And I will NOT pay $500 for the 1990-2000 Euro type 1's. Cheaper to get used and refurbish them. Though $150 for new 1989's shipped from Israel is a good price.

I DID just order 3 sets of the 1990-2000 Euro new OEM bars for $40 each! from France. That's not much more than used, bent, rusty bars.
The extra inch on them lets you use the 1990+ front brake master cylinder. The real 1989 bars are shorter and require the 1989 front master cylinder which is narrower to fit (or it hits the gauge bracket). Just a few things I learn as I do what I do as a parts whore.

As far as I can determine, the 89's are not available as a set anywhere. I did locate a clip (left or right) for 106 Euros or $140 so I think I got a steal on these new sets of 1989's. Probably because they were only sold in 1989 is why they are so rare. the Euro's being sold 1990-2000 obviously would be more available. I lucked out late at night browsing the world in getting 3 sets of new 1989's.

What is weird is sometimes NOS is way over priced. Sometimes you find a real deal. You have to "know when to hold 'em" - i.e. the most you should pay based on what you know about part availability which comes and goes in waves. Wait and it will be cheaper. Rare part: get it at any cost.

PS: I'm not much at documenting everything. What I need is a "sponge", like Agness Gooch in Auntie Mame to write down everything I discover and write it into a book or the WIKI. Maybe someone with time on their hands can monitor my ramblings and update the WIKI. I discover lots of things and mostly mention it in responses to postings of others.

Nice
You have a 1989. Don't you have these already? Or do you not have them and are trying to suck up to me to get a set?
Ticket to down under and you can have a set. Restrictions: first class and I get miles on United/Continental or other Star Alliance airline.
I'll even install  them at no additional cost. I've always wanted to go there to practice standing on my head.

Tried to put new cool adjustable front brake lever on from Motorcycle Superstore on but they don't have the arm to push in the master cylinder piston in.  BOOO... don't say it'll fit when it won't.  Still fighting with the rear brakes too.
See, I told you I was sick...
