Found that my starter relay was basically melted around the fuse (how the bike ever started is a mystery). Fitted a brand new relay, turned ignition on, all lights nice and bright, hit starter button - nothing. Not even a click or flash or whirr or anything at all. Disconnected all wires at relay - no lights etc as expected. Wired all back up - nothing. Duff killswitch? At least it worked with the old, fried realy though! Seriously considering selling for spares/repair now as getting extremely pissed at it!

That'd be like selling your house because a light bulb burned out.  :icon_lol:

If you found wiring damage around/at the relay, chances are there could be another short in the system. Adidasguy will be along shortly with his wiring diagrams to help you out.

Likely culprits:
Start button
Kill switch
Neutral switch
Side-stand switch

Check the following:

1. Clutch switch
2. Kill switch
3. Side stand switch
4. Neutral switch

Bike must be in neutral OR side stand UP to make bike run. In other words, bike will shut off if side stand down and you go into gear.

Quite possibly you unplugged the side stand or neutral switches when you did your work. They connect under the seat. You may have disconnected the dual diode that those switches connect to. You may have disconnected the side stand relay. You can see all these on a wiring diagram.

Here's a test. In a quite place. Turn on the key. Do you hear a click? If not, bike is in gear and side stand down. With bike on center stand and bike in gear, move the side stand up and down. You should hear a little click of the side stand relay. If you do not hear a click, check that circuit: connectors under the seat for side stand and neutral, the dual diode and the side stand relay itself.

My bet is you disconnected something when changing the starter relay.

PS: Dizzy: we typed at the same time.
PSPS: Click the link below for my photobucket albums. Wiring diagram is there. It is also on the WIKI. The parts I talk about are the same in all models.

All sorted - seems that 2 wires from the kill switch/starter button had rubbed through around the steering yolk. Re-replaced and re-routed the loom and me and the GS are mates again! Happy!!      :D
