knew you'd get it! Post up a video of the beast!

hahaha not done yet.
im actually going Very slow (for me anyways haha) carefully and calmly.

got the top end all back together.
now im just getting the valve clearance set as I took the shims out when I was doing the other motor.
one exhaust is at like .09mm or .011mm
and the one intake is tighter then .04mm.

so now im not sure if I bought 4 2.55 & 2.50 shims or 2 of each.
as I need to put a 2.55mm in the intake but I used 2 on the exhaust and cant find anymore.
so im lookin it up to see if I bought 2 or 4.

so far so good tho.

I guess I can post a video of the initial startup. hahaha
I just pray nothing goes wrong or is wrong.

screw that! I want a Good video for a change!

(edit)
ugh finally found the email.
nope, I bought 2 of each size.
gotta swap out the one Slightly loose exhaust and put that one in the intake.

finally finished up.

got DRENCHED putting the exhaust back on.

didnt start, only cranked.
but the battery was a little low.

raining too hard to continue.
when it stops (today, tonight, or tomorrow)
I'll push it near the car and jump it with the car off.

cant leave the charger on the bike while its raining.

hope it all ends good!

(edit)
and I took my sweet time and went through it Very carefully.
so I can think of No reason for it Not to start now when its got some juice.

awesome! My fingers are crossed for ya. You know, in hindsight I'm really surprised it ever ran with that valve like it was..

Tombstones81

yeah it is surprising!
because I did nothing to cause that nor did I hear anything that would cause it.

Big Rich

Probably just flooded the motor. Shut the fuel valve off, pull the spark plugs out, and run jumper cables from a car. Spin the motor over a little bit to dry out and you should be good to start all over again.

thanks!

but not just yet.
trying to really calm down here first....

Just seems like everytime I do something major to it, another new problem appears....

6 to 7 hours straight today and it doesnt turn out as it should "so far"

thats why I get so ticked.
Im spending 5 to 8 hrs at a time on this sucker when im doing major work.

I might just wait until tomorrow and go over the valve clearance and timing again.
I made sure they were right but as I've learned before, somehow it can be off after I put everything back together.

I guess I can be slightly happy.. Dare I even say it too!
that after all the cranking, didnt see a drop of oil anywhere  :thumb:

(edit)
nope, didnt help out any.

also, there is a Thumping noise from the head everytime it cranks.
not a tick, grind or anything, but a thump thump thump thump.

I gotta check the timing and valve clearance tomorrow I guess.....

I swear, if this doesnt work 100%.
Im just going to put everything back in the old motor, tighten up that bolt in the oil reservoir, use the  copper washers from the new engine and put the old one back in.

then if it leaks, run it until it friggin dies a very painful death!

(edit)
actually...
if This freakin head doesnt pan out.... and I honestly have No possible idea why it wouldnt...

then im just going to replace the exhaust valve on the head I just replaced and put that back on.
since I got extra valves to do so.

ugh I've really freakin had it with this bike.
its especially hard when I see rebuild threads on here go so absolutely smooth!

Cloud 999999999999999999999999999! baby!

HELL YEAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :woohoo:  :woohoo:  :woohoo:  :woohoo: :woohoo:  :woohoo:  :woohoo:   :woohoo:  :woohoo:  :woohoo:

Knew it was valve related... Just Knew it....

Only thing I didnt try yet, was putting the new engines cam shafts and half moon things in the old engines head that is on the new engine now.

so.. I did!     :thumb:

Got all done and cranking it by hand was SOOOOOOOOOOO much smoother!
at that point (with my dad sittin there watchin before he went home) im like... Yep! its GOING to start!!
I just knew it was going to be good!!

Checked the valve clearance.
Right exhaust and intake were perfect.
left 2 were loose.
260 in the intake made that one Perfect.
265 (was 260) in the exhaust made it a Little tight. (probably .03mm)

but I needed the only extra 260 I had for the intake, so that had to due vs .11mm or .10mm in the exhaust.
So now I will order another 260 shim on Friday for the exhaust valve.

put it all together. (to make it short)

Crank... VROOM!
She starts Right up and jumps to 5K with the choke on!
Took the choke off... hit the throttle.... NO boggin or bad sounds!!!!   :thumb:  :woohoo:
adjusted the idle screw.
Hit the throttle again... PERFECT!
well, the throttle was a little tight, so I adjusted that before a test run.

Took it around the block.
PERFECT!!!!!  :woohoo:  :woohoo:  :woohoo:  :woohoo:

got back, took a look in front near the headers....

wait for it.....

wait for it..........

NO OIL LEAKING !!!!  :woohoo:  :woohoo:  :woohoo: :woohoo:  :woohoo:  :woohoo:  :woohoo:  :woohoo:

Washed up and got my gear on.
went for a quick 5 mile test run and to stop for gas.

Shes ALL GOOD!

except I have a little tinkering to do.
thats why im home now
letting it cool off.

gotta adjust the headers so they are perfect and seal up the area where the exhaust meets the slip on.
and now the throttle has a lil too much free play (it let up more when I hit the throttle)
other then that and the headlight cowl installation (another day)

well, and the one exhaust shim I need to buy Friday

shes ALL GOOD!

Damm im so happy!

sorry, no video of it starting for the first time and it being GOOD!
I literally was TOO happy!!

Plan to make a video.
but not just yet.
goin out to get the exhaust all perfect (I could hear its a LITTLE loose)
as I was taking it off and on so much, I didnt wanna chance stripping any bolts.

and seal up where the exhaust meets the slip on.

then a longer test ride.

probably tomorrow if she stays 100%

OMG that felt soooo nice!!!!

20 mile test run.
acted fine considering a tight exhaust valve.

I could tell it needs a smaller shim swapped.

will be ordering that First thing Friday morning!!

ok.
just got back home from riding the bike to work and back. (stopped at the gfs)
Was a good 50ish mile ride.

Acted GREAT!
Minus the Very obvious indication of a tight exhaust valve.
Will be getting a replacement shim from Steezin soon  thanks man!

done riding it until I swap the shim out as I do NOT wanna chance breaking something now.

also what might be because of a tight exhaust valve or I need new header gaskets (will get them anyways)
exhaust sound coming from the front area of the bike.
fairly loud in comparison to what it was like last year.
Might be a combination of both, the exhaust valve and needing new header gaskets.
even tho the headers are on really good.

any other possibility I need to worry about on that???

Everything else is 100%!
new tires felt great.
new chain is all good.
Kat 600 rear shock is Sooo nice!
and new progressive fork springs and fresh 15W fork oil is workin Great! (handles like a dream, so its all proper)

got the sucker on a few open roads up to a maximum speed of like 75 with no complaints.
handled and rode Great!

just a nice amount of poppin out the exhaust when I let off the throttle because of the tight exhaust valve.

(edit)
and Friday I will be ordering a few new things.
New header bolts and gaskets.
1 or 2 cans of 2 Part (2K), SprayMax Urethane Aerosol Clear Coat for the headlight cowl.
as the duplicolor clear I bought and used on it looks like utter GARBAGE in comparison!!!!!
but also white primer and more color paint to redo it the exact way I did the rest of the bike so its matches it 100%!
was primer grey when I got it, so that might have affected the end result if I didnt redo it with white primer.

and a quick stop at the local tag and title place to order a custom plate. (NOT telling!  :nono: )
a mere $21.50, of course I will!

almost forgot.
took some pics of my plugs after a total of like 70 mile test run since yesterday.

and bare in mind, these were not brand new clean when I started.
these have been the plugs I've been using since I thought I finished my old engine (when the oil leak began) (bought new back then)
so im not sure if that matters.

brown one is the right side of the engine where the valve clearance is all good.
(think thats from the slight surface rust in the tank that I need to take care of)

other one is the left side of the engine that needs the exhaust valve clearance loosened.
(it was pretty much black when I started yesterday, now half and half)
obviously running lean from the tight exhaust valve.

input?
