Rejetting using buddha jet kit

Hey everyone,

I apologize in advance for the dumb questions. I got a buddha jet kit for a 2008 GS500 with a stock air filter and exhaust. It came with rubber o-rings as well. Are these used to shim the needle? Is that even necessary on a stock rejet?

Also, I've got 8 hex screws in here as well. I'm assuming that's for both float bowls and both top covers?

Thanks!

Also, how many turns out of the idle screw should I do? Thanks!

Worm

the 8 socket caps screws are for the bowls. There are 4 in each. Not sure on the o-ring or mixture setting.

O rings are to shim the needle. 1 o ring = 2 #4 washers.

Ordered the Buddha kit myself and had it explained to me.

Thanks for the tip! So is the o-ring necessary for a stock setup? Also, how many turns out should I do for the air mixture screw? Thanks!

O rings are not required, but there if fine tuning is needed.

Start with 3 turns out and adjust as needed.

The 01+ GS has a washer on top of the e clip in the needle. Your first step is to try that under the e-clip. If you need to richen it further, then use the O ring.
I have explained it so many times, I also had stickied it - this jetting mod has been around since 05 or 06. The thread sticky or not seems to have vanished.

Then the top - those bolts usually survive a remove and reinstall, the float bowl bolts do not, besides the floats you may in some cases want to pull them when the bike is still fully assembled, with a handle spinner ratchet and allen sockets you can. The tops you get to them only after pulling the tank. In that situation, it makes no difference if you have allen bolts or not, screw driver room is there when there is no tank.

Cool.

#7
So I just finished reassembling the bike. I now have 20/60/132.5, 3 turns out on the air/fuel mixture, and a #4 washer under the needle. Bike fires up and runs, though I can't take it for a test ride yet since I'm waiting on some other parts. I noticed though that the exhaust sounds alot deeper, almost as if it's bogged down. Is that normal after a rejet? It's a completely stock bike otherwise. Seems to idle and rev alright though.

The Buddha

Sounds like its bogging - when opening the throttle ? OK if it revs fine when you open throttle slowly but falls on its face when you rev up fast, then it is an indication the slides are rising too fast.
Else - well post symptoms, and remember carburetion is to be tested under load, not when revving in the driveway.
OK also your air filter clean ?
Cool.
