I am going to make a set of more modern looking rearsets for my 2008 GS500F. I am 5'10" or so and I am trying to find a good OEM '89 top clamp with clip-ons and bars. I know some of you guys have aftermarket rearsets, like Raask and Gimbel, and I would like to know what you guys think of the position that you like best. I was thinking of 3"-4" back and minimun 1" up. With the new bars and the new position on the rearsets I think I would like the ride profile better. Any feedback would be great. For those that wonder why I don't try the Raask or Gimbel. Easy answer is I can make multiple sets for the price they go for and are not so damn hard to find.

I think you are going to find there is a very small market for this type of thing for this bike ~ I mean maybe 5-6 people on the entire planet.

Your biggest hurdles are going to be price and performance ~ almost no one wants to pay a lot of money to improve the performance of a GS500 in the way that rearsets do. Sure, adidasguy put expensive stuff on his bikes, but that is just what seems to float his boat.

If you really want to make something useful, how about a set of mounting plates that allow you move the stock footpegs around a bit ?

Well that would be super easy to do, just a simple CNC plate. Hmmm.

NoBlanks...I have a CNC....

I just had a weld shop (because me no havy a welder) cut my old pegs off and i bought some gsxr pegs for cheap, and had them weld make brackets for the new pegs. i can't adjust them but i like the feel for the most part.

There are plenty of pegs out there. So no need to make the pegs.
Make good brackets for the available bolt on pegs. If you move the pegs back, you'll need a lever for the shift. Probably can use one from another model bike. Same for the brake.

Where possible incorporate stock parts. make a good bracket to use as much stock as possible. It will save work and make replacements of the breakables (i.e. the pegs themselves) easy.

Look at the Raask and Gimbel to get ideas. also look at other bikes. Borrow and steal ideas. I'm all for something cool.
I have spare Raask and Gimbel. I can give you photos of the parts off of a bike, on the table, if you want.

Maybe take GSXR or something people modify and make a bracket for those pegs that fit the GS. Visit a bike bone yard and grab assorted parts to experiment with.

Keep us posted.

I have been fantasizing about making GSXR or CBR rearsets + linkage work...

I really want to be rocking GP shift. So much more comfortable.

I might design something up in CAD and try them out on my bike. I don't want to step on Noblanks idea and sell them out from under him. While I can make some nice cnc brackets, I am limited on finish. I don't have reliable access to anodizing or powdercoating. Painted or buffed to match the frame I can do easily.

I dont care who makes it, if You can get the raw material to me before I buy some 1/4 inch AL and a small scroll saw and make an adapter for gsxr rearsets, ill be happier than a pig in poopoo

Soloratov

Soooo.....sounds like I'm running 2 sets Friday afternoon huh. I have a 1990 model, any design differences in later years I should know about? Info:

1. I am making adapters that allow adjustable location for STOCK rearsets first.
2. If you want custom brackets for different rearsets, I need the mounting bolt pattern of the rearsets you are using.

Need to post some pics once you are done. Make sure you get some deposits on these things before you make 20 of 'em unless you want to try selling them on eBay. Otherwise  :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

All pegs & stuff the same for all GS500's. Only difference was the color of the bracket - silver or black.

I'd be more than happy to pay someone to make me an adapter to move the stock rearsets around a bit.  (Up & back a bit are my needs.)  I have plans to bandsaw some out of aluminum stock just as xunedeinx mentioned, but if someone else would do it for me so I can spend my time on other projects, I'd happily pony up.  :)
If you can't be a good example, at least try to be a horrible reminder.

Soloratov

I will be running one set to test out this friday. I will post pics once I mount them up. The plan is as follows...subject to change:

Adjustable one position down, 2 positions up, or 2 positions back.

The distance between mounting locations will depend on what size bracket I can make before it looks out of place.

*** This is important! I do not have any intention to correct for the brake or gear shifter at this time. That would require some tooling I do not have.

Rear brake pedal moves with the footpeg bracket. Guess people will just have to live with a longer reach to the shift lever ~ it can be adjusted up to account for a higher peg position on that side.

There have been a lot of posts. THANKS FOR THE LINKS PAULSET! I work in a full fab shop with cnc lasers, weld dept, powdercoat paint dept, etc. I am designing multiple styles in autocad right now. Adjustable from stock position then back and up, have folding brake and shifter. I will use the stock heel guards even though others look nicer. Putting the master cylinder behind it all for cleaner look.

Got a set of GSXR pegs on the way and a brake pedal too. HAYABUSA shifter showed up today. I think a carbon fiber shifter linkage rod would be cool, but don't know how reliable they are. I think 1/4" - 5/16" 6061 Aluminum (not the stuff made out of recycled beer cans!) for the mount is good. Design, materials, and paint are anything goes. And cost will be little to nothing except for the pedals and pegs. Much cheaper if someone just wants a mount and will buy their pegs and pedals later. Pics will be coming.

SAFE-T

If you have access to all that, how about a linkage for GP-shift pattern on the transmission side then ?
