Hi all,

I just started riding again after 10 years.  I picked up a 2000 GS500 this past Saturday and love it.

Question:

Does everyone here suit up with boots, gloves, and jacket no matter if you're trip is 5 minutes or 45 minutes?  Later.

Dude, what does mine say?  Sweet!  What about mine?

notoriouskeef

I ride nude, clears out the sinus's and the crack  ;)

Actually soon as I get my bike back from satan I will be wearing full gear, helmet, jacket, gloves, boots, and pants.  Not worth the risk to ride w/out.

pantablo

boots, gloves, jacket and HELMET always.

When I go out for fun in the canyons I also wear leather pants that 360* zip into my leather jacket.

Pantablo, said it best. Congrats, on your buy!

Happy Ridding!

You could ride around like a squid... and then when you greet the pavement, you'll want full gear,  kevlar body armor, and pillows tied to your body parts ;)  So, cut out step one, and it'll spare you a lot of pain! (I've done step one  stupid MAW sending a jacket 2 sizes too small)

yeah, it's a pain in the butt to get all geared up just for a short trip down to the store, but it's worth it!  There's a website where someone was out for a '5 minute ride' and turned into a road rash poster child :(  I'd hang all your gear up by the door, and soon enough, you'll be in and out of your outfit in 2 mins, start the bike, get the helmet and gloves on while it warms up :)

ps - jeans don't work.

i always wear gloves, helmet, and a jacket; but the boots and riding pants come and go.  i don't own tennis shoes (other than the ones i solely wear to the gym), so it's either my leather boots, or other leather shoes i own.  sometimes you just don't want to wear boots.  as for pants, i just wear jeans or cargo pants on my bike.  i have some atomic pants i throw on for fun twisties though.  all in all, good gear is a must.

When staying in town:

Helmet (duh)
A Stars TZ-1 Leather Jacket
Leather Gloves (usually Teknic Violators)
Jeans
Joe Rocket Atomic Shoes

When heading into the twisties or the highway:

Swap the Jeans and Shoes for Joe Rocket Stage1 Pants and Oxtar TCS boots.

full-face, work boots, jacket, pants and gloves.  I sometimes go with unarmored leather pants for a 30mph ride through the parks, but usually stick with the 'stich.

Never tested any of it for crash-worthiness, and don't intend to.

Jacket, gloves, helmet, jeans as a minimum. Got textile overpants for going to work, boots.

Do as they do... I wear full gear in winter, and late fall and early spring... Its gets hot and humid, and I start shedding gear. I seat easy and only ride to work... so I have to arrive fresh as a daisy... so no gear. Of course helmet and gloves, but nothing more... Dont follow what I do though. I also ride at 50% of the limits of both man, machine and environment... I mean cars pass me, easy on some roads... dont believe me... ask werase. And I was racing to keep up with him then.
Cool.

I'm still on the hunt for good pants, but always wear helmet, gloves, jacket and some type of boot.  I have a set of Alpintstars boots for aggressive riding, but normally wear my older work (military) boots.  They offer good lateral and sole support and some of them are steel toe.
