How can i improve the fuel system for 01+ model?  I don't want to mess with intake/exhaust but I want to improve warm-up time.  I am correct in thinking i can re-jet?  From reading on here it seems the 01+ models are different in some way.  What do i need to do for 01+ models?

Also i'm planning on replacing all the fuel hoses and installing an in-line fuel filter.  I need two filters right?  Is the best place to put them after the tank chicken before the res/on valve?

Thanks

2001 and up are different carbs.  Stock it uses a 17.5 bleed type mikuni pilot - replace with a 20 to have the same effect as the older bikes getting a 40 non-bleed.  The bike has a mid-main and a main jet.  Both are the large round head type mikuni.  I do not remember the size of the mid-main off hand - but go up one size if you are putting a K&N in the airbox - some on the board have gone up two sizes with K&N type pods and not raised the needle.  Others have left it at one and raised the needle and still others have left the mid-main alone - I think that what works best has a lot to do with what you do with the main jet.  The stock main is 127.5.  If everything else is left stock go up one size to get richen up the bike - it needs it.  If putting on K&N pod filters go to a 137.5 or 140 for a starting point - if you did not do anything with the mid-main you might find that a 140 and raising the needle does it.  If you did change the mid-main the 135 might.  If you go with a slip-on or full exhaust then start with a 150.  I tried 152.5 and 147.5 in addition to the 150.  152.5 seems too rich on hot days but runs great when its around freezing.  147.5 was great except on the color of the plugs scared me - a relic of many burned 2-stroke pistons a few decades ago -  2 strokes produce the most power just a bit too lean - just before they sieze.  I would rather run slightly rich than have a hole in the piston.  150 seemed the best compromise for me.  If you are at high altitude, I would definately start with the 147.5.

Of course you want to remove the plugs over the mix screws and adjust them.  3 turns is the starting point.  You could end up at 2 or 4 turns when you are done.

Hi-T

THE JETS ARE SMALL ROUND MIKUNI!!!!

They are not large round... The stock mid main is a 60 small round.  All the other info is correct.  You may have a hard time finding them in a shop... I had to order them three times (freakin dealership).  Same with the bleed pilots- I couldn't get them from the suzuki guys but did find them at the Yamaha dealership.  I say take them with you so you can show the dealers the part when they try to give you the wrong ones.

Bump Everything up one size and you will notice a difference- the bike will warm up quicker and will run more friendly.
