Do me a favor...cut all your wrenches off 3" from the socket so you can stop putting so much torque on your bolts!!

Seriously though, be careful!

By the way, I learned the same lesson on that bolt, but I snapped off the bolt instead of the threads.  Pretty sure that those are smaller threads than the other bolts.

Tombstones81

hahaha in all honesty, im not putting that much torque on them.

Its been from taking them all on and off so much.

which has been AAAALOT!!!

Helicoil kit arrived!
and the new blinkers!

Thanks bomb!  :thumb:

same length as the LED ones I have on the front, so they went on the back as I initially planned.

Looks alot better as my rear stock ones were quite worn and Fugly!

Stopped at Ace with my dad since im broke til tomorrow... hahaha

Measured the size of the bolts for the cam shaft half moon mounts.

Not the same size as the bolts for the head cover.

So I gotta get a 6 X 1.0 kit tomorrow now.

also got both drill bits I needed for both jobs.

9/32 for the head cover bolts and 1/4 for the cam shaft mounts.

hopefully I get this done tomorrow.

Got the engine sellers address last night.

So everything is a Go to go check it out and purchase it tomorrow.  :thumb:

Sadly, its going to rain all the way until Thursday.

Hopefully I get a 2hr+ window to check over, clean, and put the new motor in and test it all out sometime before Thursday.

Will update tomorrow with the results!

Just got back from my NJ trip.

WITH the motor!   :thumb:

Cranked by hand smooth as silk as it should and compression with my finger over the plug holes.

No problems with the valves unlike the last motor!!!

Guy was nice enough to put new plugs in it and oil filter for me.
I stopped for oil omw home.

$40 for 4 qrts of Castrol 10W40 synthetic.

same as I've used since I bought the bike and have had Zero problems with it!

it sat prior to him putting fresh oil in it and testing it all out.
so I want only the good stuff in it to start with.

For once.. and dare I say it.... yes I DARE!

I am pretty much 100% confident once I get the engine in, she will be in 100% Perfect working condition!!

Really appreciate the guy holding onto it for a week for me vs his other offers.

Gotta email and say thanks again too.

Also the supervisor at work did the schedules a few weeks ahead and unless $h!t hits the fan....

That im going to be off May 17th thru the 21st and go back to work the 22nd.

So Pittsburgh is lookin GREAT!

kk im a walking friggin zombie right now!

worked all night and drove Quite a ways.

time for bed!

takes for the photo and all the info you've written up!!
if yer binders ain't squeakin, you ain't tweakin!

Tombstones81

hahaha im sure it will, as long as you go in light to thick (but not runny) even coats with the primer and color.
and then use the same clear.

what are you painting anyways?

hahaha yea that'd be funny.
Screw calling it a rattle can job anymore.
Tombstyle paintjob is in! hahahahaha  :thumb:

haha that cracks me up.

well, after being at work 1.25 hrs, took a holiday after making sure it was going to be a quiet night.

Not raining and a little tempted to go and at Least take the current motor out of the bike (that doesnt have a top end on it atm)

but after such a long day, im going to do what I left work for..... Relax!

Also a few good things that came with the motor and currently installed on it.
add a 2nd used clutch cable to my inventory (used as a backup incase something happens to my brand new one)
Tachometer cable
and the hose from the air breather on top of the head cover since I broke mine from being old dry and brittle.

Also get to use my brand new 15T front sprocket now since its not a pre 94 and 94+ the front sprocket had a shoulder added, which doesn fit pre 94.

2 sets of brand new header gaskets picked up omw home that I ordered 2 weeks ago.
brand new header bolts I bought when I ordered the gaskets.

and the brand new plugs and oil filter I already mentioned that the buyer was nice enough to toss in it.

Just gotta clean very minor rust spots on it.
wash it down and clean it up.
toss on my grey side cover I've had since last year as the current ones broken.
and put the extra new suzuki emblem on it.

(edit)
oh yeah.
and brand new fuel lines.
even tho the one line is almost brand new, still going to replace what I have length for.
as some rusty gas passed through it for a bit.

Well, got the old motor out.

Cleaned and situated my work area and it started to rain as I finished with that.

Checked the radar earlier and just now, quite the bit of rain headed this way.
So thats it for today.

Next chance I get, i'll clean up and get the new motor all ready to go in.

and 3rd motor is the charm!

Almost all my own dumb fault too.

First motor would of been still 100% if I would have known better to crank it by hand when the exhaust valve was stuck.
but I thought it was electrical and kept cranking it by the starter and broke the valve.

All the oil leaks with that motor was all my fault for mixing up the inner and outer head mounting bolts that look identical unless you hold em up to your face.

and the head cover leaks are my fault too for taking off the cam shaft mounts and cover so many times.
which are not meant to come off as much as I took them off and on!

oh well.
Live and learn.

I paid quite a bit for these lessons.

but as soon as the new motor goes in and im ridin around... I wont care

what are you painting anyways?

painting my fork and hand guards on the drz. i couldn't find that clear you used, and the guys at advanced had no clue on paint.. i got that primer, and dupli-color acrylic enamel gloss black and clear.

Is there a specific "clear" or will the dupli-color enamel clear do?
if yer binders ain't squeakin, you ain't tweakin!

Tombstones81

on my phone. so this will be sloppy. i would google quite a bit if u should clear over that black enamel. esp gloss. i read a few sites say no clear or give it a Longgg time to cure. my frame is enamel and looked like garbage after i clear coated.

10-4!!

Found a couple threads on the gloss black enamel, i'll keep reading. The hand guards are ok, just want to paint black over the white 'acerbis' tag. The fork guards are in desperate need of painting though(has some fugly textured grey the PO sprayed on everything) I might sand those down and take a stab at it.

Just reorganized my lower shed this weekend and its perfect size for a make shift paint booth!

Nice!

Yeah I did a "little" bit more reading on it a lil bit ago.

Mixed responses.

Some say yeah after its had a LONGGGGG time to cure. (months)

other say yeah as long as you use the proper clear.

Me, the main visual parts of the frame I sanded through the clear and repainted a few color coats cause it looked like garbage in comparison to before the clear.

Still have to give mine time to see how it will turn out tho.
Its fresh paint and hasnt been on the road enough to know which is better.

Dunno, u jumped on the one questionable area when it comes to my know-how in painting. hahahahaha

Stopped raining for awhile.
So I took the new motor out of my car and going to start cleaning it up.

Before that tho, put some watered down Lime Away into my gas tank since I have some surface rust.

Shook it up quite a bit (probably 1/2 to 3/4 full) and almost got shot in the face by air pressure when I opened the cap up. hahaha

Already clean and rust free in there!  :thumb:

Now to clean the motor and then head to the store for some WD40 to keep it from flash rusting.
and some gas for the final rinse.

new engine pre cleaning.

Sounds good, I found a couple good threads where they mentioned that as well(waiting months before paint is hardened and more completely cured)

I'm going to give it a shot, maybe even give it a little heat to help speed the curing process

Back On Topic;

That engine looks damn good!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo:

Thanks.

Its lookin better now that its clean!

Still have to take the front sprocket off and scrub the rust off and put my 15T sprocket on.

but, done for today!

stopped at Ace hardware.
Got some more black enamel for the engine area of the frame (scratched up a little bit but not as badly as before)
but im still going to sand it down in the engine area good and respray some coats on it.

Grabbed a can of WD40 for the rust and flushing the tank.

and a bottle of Polmolive for washing the bike down before I wax it as I lost my Giant bottle of it moving.

filled up a container of gas as well.

got back, Steaming hot water to start flushing the tank after I drained the Lime Away out of it.

Few flushes of hot ass water, sprayed the hell out of the inside with WD40 and then began flushing with gas.
Kept flushing with gas until it was coming out clean from the petcock location (petcock removed)

filled it up with the rest of the gas and called it done :)
no more worries on the surface rust now, shes all clean  :thumb:

GOTTA love my shopvac tho!
makes suckin up all that nasty fluid from the tank SOOOOOOO much easier!!!

started drizzling so thats all for today!

and heres my babys new heart lookin all Brand new except for the scratches there on the emblem.

I only have one brand new emblem atm that has to go on the other side as that sides cover is cracked with no emblem.
so I have to put the other silver one i have on with the new emblem.

and just order one from the salvage yard when I get paid to make it 100%!

also will be taking those header gaskets out.
got 2 sets of brand new ones in my car  :thumb:

kk time for bed!

(edit)
and I dont care how it looks being silver in the bike.
The engine (minus the emblems) are in such pristine condition...
I would have to a total MORON to paint it black to match the bike!!

Big Rich

Yes sir, that motor looks real good.

I know it's not a big deal after the fact, but I've always put used engine oil in a tank to stop them from flash rusting. Only because it's easier to clean afterwards and WD40 can make a surface next to impossible to paint. Doesn't really apply here, just wanted to point it out.

thanks
and
good to know

Its just that I've only read a few how to's on removing rust from a tank.

The few I did read all said WD40 after the water rinse.

So I simply went with that.

Gonna go out in a sec and take another peek inside to see how it is after a day to settle.

and see if its not raining in even the slightest bit.
gotta sand and respray the engine area of the frame again to take it back to lookin 100% perfect!

so I just need enough time to spray it and for it to dry.

I can put the engine in with a little drizzle, just cant paint.

(edit)
so far so good.

got some painting done.

spot on the one side has a few runs.
so I have to let it dry, sand and respray it better.

and if the rain keeps holding up.

Might just toss the motor in today.

Already cleaned and just put my 15T sprocket on.

so all I have to do is wait longer for the paint to be fully dry to the touch.

sun was out and spotty.
looks like its getting cloudy now tho ><
