Hi Everybody

Few months ago I've got GS500 2000. Carbs doesn't works properly. The Needles was upper to make mixture more rich. I've disassembled the carbs and placed the needles to the standard positions, but that didn't help, the carbs still doesn't works properly. Also, I saw, that the valve and slide guide is erased. Few days ago, I've tried to clean the jets but, when I opened the carbs I saw that the needles in both carburetors are broken. I think this is guilt of erased valve and slide guide. I've tried to find parts on www.bikebandit.com but there is not the slide guide, or its not selling separately, I don't know. After I've decided to buy used carbs assemblies from eBay.com, I didn't find for 2000 y. And I've bought carbs from gs500F 2006. Now they are on the way, and I'm thinking how to make they works on my bike?! I know that they have an additional mid main jets, and there is added an electricity but, what for, I don't know! My friend has Gs500F 2005 and We tried to get run his bike without that electric connections, and it Runs! It's good for me but, there is one more difference on carbs - Vacuum! and I don't know, how to mod it for my bike

I'm from Tbilisi, Georgia! Here motorcycle culture is progressing very very slow.. So here is no any motorcycle service, if you find that one, they will not help you more than you can help yourself with GStwin.com or some same enternet resource..

Help me, Please!!!

P.S. Excuse my bad english. Please!

Sincerely
Emilien

The needle's hole is not correct size, it's way bigger and not round

Hope, somebody will help!

Things to remember:

Carb parts are not that interchangeable from 1989-2000 carbs and 2004+ carbs.

1. Choke cable: 89-00 has a 45* angle at the carbs. 2004+ has a 90* angle and connects to the left carb rather than between the carbs
2. Intake manifold on engine is deeper for 89-00 carbs. Newer carbs might fit older intakes just fine. Older carbs do not fit well on newer intake manifolds.
3. Air box boots: Larger for older carbs. Slightly smaller diameter for 2004+ carbs
4. Newer carbs have LOTS of hoses. The PARE system has a vacuum hose from a "T" off of the right carb. That "T" also goes to the fuel petcock. You can remove the PARE system if you cap off the "T" hose that goes to the PARE system. (Also called the Secondary air system). The older engine might not have the PARE system.
5. Newer carbs have a throttle position sensor and a vacuum switch. These do not have to be connected if you are running on an older motor.
6. I doubt any of the parts can be exchanged between older carbs and newer carbs. They are a different design.

Adidasguy thanks for Attention!
I know that they are different! I wasn't sure if the 06 carbs will work on my bike, but now, I think it will work.
Tell me, where can I find the slide guides for my 2000 carbs? I couldn't find it on www.bikebandit.com that was the reason why I've bought 06 carbs assemblies!

I do not believe they are easily available as a separate part.

Parts people on this board may have them.

You may have good luck with members in Spain, Germany or the UK. Postage would be cheaper if they have the parts.

I had a couple of parts boxes given to me Saturday when we presented Phenix to the world. I have not had time to go through the box yet. I do remember seeing carb parts in the box.

It might be easier to purchase a used set of 89-00 carbs from a running bike. Probably less than $100 US plus shipping. Someone on the board may have a set. I have to inventory and sort my parts to know what I have in spare carbs.

Otherwise, you can use the 2004+ carbs. Remember you will have to change the throttle to the dual cable throttle. However I have heard you can run with a single throttle cable. (Someone else might know about this).

It will be a trade off on the amount of work to modify things for the newer carbs (which can be done) compared to buying an older set which you simply clean and put on the bike with no modifications required.

With the popularity of the GS500 in Germany, you might find a set of carbs on ebay.de  I suggest that in order to save on postage. We can ship from here if you find nothing closer to you.
