Flooded the engine after putting it on prime and leaving it.... Ugh. Now I remember why I never used that setting.

Anyways, just did an oil change and went to start the bike up. Little bit of white smoke unless you give it some gas. Then you get a biiiiiig plume of it. So, pulled the plugs and dangit, one side isnt even firing. Was wet. Any ideas, folks? Last day of decent weather for a week, I really want to get out today

Hmm. Dunno what the "correct" procedure is, but what I do is this: Pull both plugs. Dry them. Hold throttle wide open while cranking for 10 or 15sec (open throttle lets air pass and carry away excess fuel). Reinstall plugs. Again with part or full open throttle, crank and watch it fire right up.

Some carburetted vehicles have an accelerator pump that squirts extra fuel as the throttle is opened ( to minimize throttle lag/temporary lean condition. For this reason, the old idea that you should "pump the gas pedal" while cranking would easily lead to flooding. I don't think our carbs have an accelerator circuit so it doesn't apply here, just a factoid for the next time you try to start a 72 buick.

Is it white smoke or white and blue smoke? If you flooded the engine, turn off the fuel and crank the engine with wide open throttle.

your bike will not flood on PRIME unless the float needle is damaged or floats are sticking. or it's upside down.

also, your sign line- are you serious ? that's hilarious.

Thanks for the help guys. More issues though. Went to start er up today after removing both plugs and letting it sit for 1.5 days. Still only firing on one cylinder, so I took her back inside and noticed a black liquid trailing behind it. Finally figured out it was coming from here the exhaust meets the block. So I pulled that too and now it's back to waiting for another couple days to see if that clears it out.

Yes sir, 100% serious. I'm a firm believer in the Greek system and the principles it upholds, especially those of my fraternity. Don't feel special though, this is the same username/sig I use for everything (started with our frat bio section, and I jsut let it spread)

Not to start a debate, but what does  "3. Diffusion of Liberal Culture" mean?

Idjut newbie question:
How does the engine keep running, if you take out the spark plugs?
Or am I misunderstanding, and the engine is NOT running.. you're just "cranking" the starter motor, which somehow gets rid of fuel?

Liberal in the classic sense, meaning well rounded and educated. Essentially, diffusion of liberal culture to us means to help progress in the world and to push away from tradtitional (and less-than-politically/socially/morally correct) ideas that still seem to sit quite comfortably in some houses.

Or, a shorter answer would have just been "progressive thinking", I guess. Haha

As has been said by a great writer: true progress, is getting closer to a goal, not "getting away from something". You might want to think where you actually want get to, with your "progress".
Generally speaking, "rejecting the values of my parents/grandparents", isnt so much a goal, or a life plan, or a moral plan, so much as simply adolescent rebellion and rejection of responsability.

And as for the rest: just as something being legal, doesnt make it moral... something being "politically correct", doesnt make it morally correct.   After all, who thinks of politicians, when they want to think of high morals?  :P

I mean rejecting the tradtional "better than everybody else" view that still persists in many fraternities, along with the racist and xenophobic traits expressed. I would consider that to be more than just a rebelion against the past generations, unless you support the ideals of the 1950's
