Best bike service in Brisbane?

So I used to get my old GPX250 serviced at the local Kawasaki dealer at Bowen Hills, and the guys there were all great and the prices were reasonable...but now that I have a Suzuki rider, I don't know where to go...I guess they could do it, but would it not be better to go somewhere that specialises in Suzuki's?

So my question is, where do all you Brisbane riders go? a Suzuki dealer or do you know a local better mechanic? Any recommendations will be considered. I live at Herston, and work all week in the city but if you know one that's open on the weekend and a bit further out (I know of a decent one at Brendale), I'd consider it...

Also - I just got my bike with 3500km on it (2009). The guy I bought it off said he'd already had it serviced but I should get another one done at about 5000kms because it's still being broken in? does that sound right? And if so, at what intervals after that should I get it serviced? (km-wise or time-wise). I was told every 5000km or 6 months, so I just did my old bike every 6 months (I only did 3000km in 6 months). Considering I don't know how to do ANYTHING myself on my bike (although I'd like to learn!) should I just do it 6 monthly?

Thanks for any advice :)

Only place myself and mister trust, and possibly twisted lol.

Most of the dealers in brissy are owned by the same parent company, who are running them into the ground and alot of dodgy shaZam! going down. This bloke is the ducks guts.  :thumb:. Word of warning though, you gotta book ahead he doesnt take walk ins.
Some say that he submitted a $20000 expense claim for some gravel

And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.

*sigh* Carina! That's like a good 90 minute drive from where I am, and without being open weekends, I think I will need to find someone a bit more local...not really worth taking a day off to get the bike serviced unfortunately :( would be a nice ride though.

90 minutes from Herston to Carina? Not unless you're jogging slow. Here's the map, only 12km away.

What I do - and I currently live in Ipswich but am moving in a couple of days to the GC and will still find a way to use him after I move - is ride the bike to him after work, drop it off, he drives me to the station and I catch a train home. When I pick it up I catch a train to his location after work, he picks me up and I ride home. Easy as  :thumb:

On the GS500 the service intervals are...

1,000
6,000
12,000
18,000
24,000
30,000
36,000
42,000
48,000
54,000

With each 12,000 service being a Major.

The fellow Slips mentioned (Ozzy) does Both my bikes - my GS500 and my 900 Hornet. When I picked up the Hornet I took it to him and asked him to give it a service (regardless of schedule). I did not trust the dealer and he found Simple things the dealer Should have done - spark plugs, air filter, etc. This guy lives bikes. And his workshop floor is so clean you could eat off it, literally. We reckon he has OCD he is so meticulous about making a bike run smoothly.

He also services Police bikes, is an authorised repairer for insurers but he won't do work for Swann cause they don't pay the mechanics for months and months and is about to be given his Insurance Assessors license.

This guy gets my business because he is Good. He does not have some lacky work on the bike. He works on it himself. BMW in Brisbane even call on him to solve problems they don't know how to solve. Did I tell you he is good?

If the one at brendale you are referring to is Northside Motorcycle workshop I would have to recommend against it. I have no doubt that Simon their does good work and he is cheap for tires however for services he is very expensive and generally neglects to tell you that the price he quotes at the start of a job when you drop the bike off does not include labour and you will be stuck with a very expensive and unexpected fee when you go to pick up the bike. This has happened to me twice with him once when i first got my 1990 GS500 and dropped it off for a service and again when i dropped it off to get the needle and seat done. Just a warning for you.  In the future i will be using Peter from Narangba Motorcycles as he is close to me and seems to do very good work.

BTW your old Kwaka dealer should service your Suzuki. I don't see a problem there as one motorcycle is almost the same as the next.

Sounds like you got it worked out for the oil changes. That's how I do mine. Every 5k or 6 months. Oil changes, plug changes are a piece of piss. Just be careful doing the oil filter as if you do up the acorn nut on the cover to tight they will strip. Even checking your valves isn't that hard just a pain cause you gotta pull the tank off. There are plenty of how to vids posted on here and you tube. The only thing I will say is use a suitable 10-40w motorcycle specific oil as car oil will not work well with the wet clutch in the GS.

Hahaha what an idiot!! I confused Carina with Corinda *facepalm*.

Okay well that's a bit more reasonable. I think I could do that now :)

Hey Mister, on a completely unrelated note, My Dad owns a 900 Hornet. So you own the same two bikes as the only two members of my family that ride (except I have a faired gs). I cannot wait until July when I get my open license and Dad said he'd let me take his bike for a spin!!

Okay won't be going to Brendale then! I think I'll check out this guy that you all seem to love :) I think I'll just stick to every 5000kms though to be safe. Especially since I don't know how to do anything on the bike myself (I learned to check the oil when my bike broke down today though!)

What would I be looking at for a service? And just a minor for my 5000km?
