SUPERBIKES MY ARSE,MY GS IS MORE FUN..

gsJack

Some of us posted this on a previous thread on this board.

gsJack

Excuse me, that was the other board.  I'll cut and paste it here to save some 1 finger typing.

I've added:
- GenMar risers - up and back a bit with the bars.
- NC Plexi 2 fairing
- Case guards with forward pegs - don't use them much, but great when you need to stretch the legs a bit on longer rides.
- Home-made luggage rack for tail bag.
- 70 liters of soft luggage for trips - tank, tail, and saddlebags.
- Progressive springs and radial tires.

My mods are all functional. Don't do anything just for appearance.

Also a 15T front sprocked I forgot last time.  A senior moment again.

The only mod I have so far are BT45's front and rear, and a 125/135 PIAA Extreme White Bulb.  The 105/115 MADE a difference, I have not yet been with the new ones on the road but just turning them on in the garage I saw how much brighter they are!

BT45 are better than the OE tyres.  I also recommend fitting fork gaiters (those black plastic bellows type covers) over the fork legs.  Real cheap to buy, and your fork seals will last 5 times longer.  The seals can be a real pain to replace.  They also look good in a weird retro kind of way, like a Bonneville or T-bird.

Targa quarter fairing and strobe lights are the biggest things I've done.  My strobes still don't work like they're supposed to, I have to work on them more this season.

pantablo

so far...
-gsxr rear shock
-progressive fork springs
-Monster headlight fairing
-fenderectomy (phase I)
-PIAA superwhite 80/80w (performs like 135/115w) bulb
-CBR passenger pegs swaped for stock front pegs
-bar-end mirrors

in the works (waiting for parts to arrive or time to do it)
-Suburban-Machinery handlebars
-Buell turn signals, front and rear (smaller and shorter)
-fenderectomy (phase II)
-CBR rearsets
-rear hugger
-gsxr600 rear passenger pegs and brackets (to replace the welded on stock ones)

in the distant future
-new, sticky rubber when crappy Bridgestone Exedra's need replacing

wish list
-yosh slip on/full exhaust
-air dam

no, really, that's it...

My mods so far..

1: Ground slots in the ignition plate (advancing it)
2: Installed a fairing  (brand: unknown? was primer and the previous owner  gave it to me with the bike) but it came out good
3: polished up the aluminum bits (lots more to do...)
4: fabricated my own custom plexaglass windsheild (bent it over a kerosine heater)
5: Vance and hines exaust kit (this was on the bike when I got it..So all I can claim to have done was get it cleaned up and painted, but it needed it!

more to come..

Ohh hey while im here...was wondering somthing does anyone know of anyone who has bored or stroked there gs engine?? heard rumors..but thats all, could it be done? if not why not, why not?..if so let me know..not like I can afford it or anything just curiouse

What I'd do if I had too much time and money on my hands:
Powder coat frame/swingarm and wheels black and paint tank and bodywork satin black to match the frame and add some very subtle graphics
Custom fabricate or retrofit more attractive rear bodywork and tail light

JohNLA

My bike came with a Targa 1/4 faring and a fenderectomy and the rear graphics peeled off. Not to mention missing the center stand.

I have since ruined the fairing (which I'm just going to ditch) and scraped it up pretty bad and dented the tank enough to chip it so I'm going to tear everything apart, prep and paint the whole shebang in flat black rustolium. Flat of course so it won't show my horrible prep job as bad ;)

Then put in the GSXR rear shock I have and get some stiffer front springs in. I'm toying with the idea of K&N filters and modifying the stock exhause and re-jetting for some more power.

I'm going to have do something about the instruments. Right now their kinda hanging by a thread. I'd love to drop in something from Dakota Digital but that's just silly considering the cost. And how would they convert a mechanical tach anyway?

I'll figure something out. Probably involving lots of electrical tape ;)
Laws don't stop criminals. People do.

South East Rocket

-Fenderectomy
-Lower handlebars
-Blinkers off my buddy's 2002 CBR-F4i
-Yellow paintjob
-Holes drilled in the back of the exhaust (for the sound)

I'm gonna put on 140 BT45 in the rear
+jetkit

J.C. Whitney has a nice set of chrome cased gauges that'll work with Suzukis. I'm not usually a fan of JCW, but I think this is what will be going on my bike in the near future to replace my damaged stock units

On Adelita's "mild" street bike:

Suzuki "OEM" cafe fairing.
SV650 round mirrors.
A little leather "purse" zip tied to the handle bars in front of the lock (its a girl's bike  ;)  ).
RaceTech springs and oil.
SS front brake line.
EBC HH pads.
BT 010 front tire.
Yosh exhaust.
V&H ignition advancer.
Suzuki case guards.
The side stand cut and rewelded an inch shorter so it leans over better.
K&N pod filters.
DynoJet kit.
Someone's tank bra.
Suzuiki gel seat.
BT 45 rear tire.
Priority Plus always on tail lights and turn signal flashers.
The whole bike painted candy red to match her Shoei, with Tape Works retro reflective Suzuki logos.

A melding of all my race bikes:

Katana 600 front forks and brakes.
RaceTech springs and emulators.
SS brake lines.
BT090 110/140 tires.
Clip ons (I like CFM the best).
GSXR remote master cylinders.
86-94 GSXR tachs.
GSXR clutch lever assembly.
Duc Monster bikini fairing with a rounded number plate in the center (didn't survive one race weekend...).
CBR600 frame sliders.
Various exhausts.
V&H ignition advancers (want to try the slotting trick!).
Nylon "puck" bolted to the ignition rotor cover.
total loss electrical system.
547cc 58mm piston kits.
ported head.
Megacycle cams.
Kehien CR carbs.
K&N filters.
FOX GSXR and FZR (requires relocating the upper shock mount!) shocks.
CFM rearsets.
Carbon fiber GS "SuperBike" tail.
Chopped & lightened sub frame.

What is comming and stuff I'd like to try:

'92ish GSXR inverted front end with a single 6 piston caliper.
Balanced and lightened cranks.
Throwing out the balance shaft.
Carbon fiber GP style full upper and lower bodywork.
Ram air ducts and airbox/battery box system.
Carbon fiber/kevlar '02 style gas tank.
Kevlar ignition cover.
steel "hemisphere" case guards.
Stainless 2-1 under tail exhaust.
Aluminum race subframe.
Carbon fiber SV650 tail modified to fit on the GS.

-Drilled exhaust
-Shortened stalks, front and back
-All reflectors removed (looks a lot better, and I figure that by the time they see the side reflectors anyway it's already too late)
-Rear/Middle stickers removed
-MEZ2/Z4s back and front, respectively
-Frame sliders

Soon to come: lower faring, as soon as I can produce some $  ;)

Like gsJack, all of my "mods" have been functional-only.  Must have something to do with being 40+....

* TourMaster 12-liter magnetic tank bag.  It goes EVERYWHERE.
* National Cycle Plexistar 2 windshield, especially for blocking winter winds.
* FiveStars luggage racks with Kappa 40-liter hard bags for long trips.
* TourMaster 37(?)-liter soft tail bag for extra storage on some of those same trips.
* FiveStars 3-point-mount engine guards, for the NEXT time I hit a cow....

* Homespun wiring job to connect a cigarette lighter adaptor.  For recharging my cell phone and camera/headlamp NiMH batteries on the aforementioned trips.
* Homespun "throttle retainer" (bolt, wingnut, metal/fiber/rubber washers).  VERY handy when I need to stretch, or do other sundry tasks that require the right hand for a moment.  Takes about one minute to revert to stock at the end of a long trip.

* Targa tank bra, to keep my legs insulated from the cold tank (winter only).
* Suzuki gel seat.  Only logs miles when the wife comes along on the back.  I prefer the stock seat, even for long trips.

Sorry -- that TourMaster tailbag holds 17 liters, not 37.  (That would be one BIG tailbag...!)  I just received a new Chapparral Motorsports catalog in the mail today, and they're still selling a look-alike Ocelot bag for significantly less ($39.97) than the TourMaster ($53.99).
