I think this guy is asking too much, but it does look to be in pretty good shape.

http://peoria.craigslist.org/mcy/3036271924.html

Not only that, but I'm wondering exactly when those pics were taken. Says he's got a Vance & Hines exhaust on it now, but it's not pictured. I would guess the pics were taken a year or two ago, right after the new paint job...wonder how it really looks today.

Custom paint? Automatically deduct $700-1000 from the bike. Doesn't really matter...custom painted bike = less valuable than original factory paint. I'd be willing to bet, judging by the finish, that it was indeed sprayed on from a can. That doesn't mean that it doesn't look good...it just means that you can't ask as much as a bike that's in identical condition with original paint. Sorry, that's how it goes.

$700 to $1000 off of what is at most a $2000 bike?  That's a little much even for a rattle can paint job.  If the new paint is done with real automotive paint instead of a can, I don't see why it would reduce the value much at all.

I had the opposite experience with an '04 GSXR750 we flipped last year.  Tried selling it for months with no hits, gave it a cool 2 tone custom paint job and it sold in 2 weeks.  I didn't re-coop the cost of the paint job in the sale though because w used expensive paint.

And while were on the subject of flipping, anyone in this area have any interest in an '01 SV650F with 16k miles??   ;)

Half fairing = SV650S, no fairing = SV650N, and they made factory lowers which made it a full fairing model. The "F" designation didn't come out until a little later.

Well it's a GSXR first off, and the kind of people that are into those bikes normally like flashy stuff. All bets are off with GSXRs unless it's a flat-black paint job or rhinoliner. Even then, you might find someone who would pay more for that kind of paintjob.  :dunno_black:

My bad.  Like I said before, I'm not an SV person despite having a personal use one.  This one has the upper and lower fairing but I'm removing the lower and selling it separately.  I thought the first gen fairings were pretty hideous, the second gen look ok to me.  I do like the tubular frame look better though.

Something different and how often do you see an original owner 1978 anything??  http://frederick.craigslist.org/mcd/3032717534.html

I'm the same way with the fairings, I Also like the tubular frame, but at the same time I want one with fuel injection, and I think they switched both at the same time.

Yep, fuel injection came with the body style change.  My personal use SV is an '06 naked and the frame definitely is not as attractive.  The SV carbs didn't have any inherit problems so don't shy away from first gens just because of that.

found this little gem this morning while at work.

Peel off those decals and you'd have a sweet ride. 240 miles?  It's not even broken in!

Is it just me or does something not look quite right...compare the angle of the tank to the rest of the bike...could be that thing on the ridge of the tank making it look that way but I don't know.

Also, an 04 with 240 miles? Uhhhh...bad news for sure. Not riding a bike is the absolute worst thing you could do to it. Unless it had never been run before and just recently had 240 miles put on it, be prepared to replace a LOT of stuff on it, mainly the rubber lines...might be that the tank is rusted too.

I noticed that too.  The tank is leaning a little to the right.

The fact that the tank protector decal is crooked accents the lean, I think. You can see how the decal is tilted further to the right and slightly off center ( the top of the decal is closer to the right than the left).
It seems it has become necessary to qualify my posts:
I am/am not trying to start an argument. This post is/is not intended to be a personal attack. I am/am not merely attempting to present a different viewpoint.

We picked up the SV to flip yesterday.  It has had ugly rear turn signals drilled into the tail fairing but over all it looks nice and runs good.  Who wants an SV???   ;)
