Anyone install a Loobman chain oiler

I asked the guys on the DL650 board, but I forgot to ask the thrifty bunch here.  Pain in the butt to oil a chain on a bike that does not have a center stand.  In fact it's impossible to do properly without either doing a lousy job or doing an incomplete job.  So it's either a stand or a chain oiler.

I installed a loobman when I bought my new GS500 a year ago today.

It was a fiddle to install and needs some patience.

It did drip oil when the bike was stopped but I was advised to use a pin to make a small hole in the tube to balance the pressure and that sorted the problem.

I was then pleased with it as the chain seemed to stay oiled but you do have to keep checking that the cable ties that direct the oil are touching the sprocket.  I do about 1000 miles a month so it got more use than average.

But a few months ago, while I was in work, all the oil in the bottle suddenly decided to deposit itself by the side of the bike.  I guess something happened with the air pressure difference forcing the oil out.

Anyway I took it off again in an attempt to fix it but it was so crudded up I gave up and now paint gear oil on the chain once a week.

It is a clever gadget and I think for anyone doing an average mileage it will probably do a good job. (it lasted me about 8000 miles in all)

OBTW, which DL650 forum are you referring to?  I've been lurking on the Yahoo forum, and I get a little tired of the ads which appear every fourth message.  How is your DL experience?

There's another V-Strom forum at http://vstrom.info.

Here's some pics of my DL650 with Hepco & Becker luggage and SW-Motech centerstand. Not sure if you need to be a member to view.

I love the DL650 too. I already put in a 500 mile day and a 400 mile day and I was still comfortable at the end of the day. Its a bit tall and takes some getting use to when manuvering with your feet on the ground.

Thanks for the DL650 links, guys.  I haven't run across an owner who isn't delighted with theirs yet.  I'd have one right now, but poverty sucks!
