Headlight flashes with turn signals.

This is on a 2009 GS500F. I'll try to explain as best I can without pictures.

I just installed new front flush signals. The new signals also double as running lights(dual filament bulbs).

I originally wired them up as just turn signals only. I didn't try to add a constant hot wire for the running light to work.

Everything worked perfect, super bright.

Last night I tried hooking up the third wire with weird results. I traced the light brown wires from headlight running light, the little guy underneath, all the way back to where they connect with the main wiring harness.

I used a tap splice on one of the light brown wires to get power to my right front signal running light. Everything worked fine. Running light turned on with the key, right turn signal turned on correctly.

Here's where it gets screwy. . . .

I used another tap splice off of the wire I added, the one that runs from the light brown wire to my right turn signal(the new tap splice is inbetween the first tap splice and the right signal), and ran that over to the left side running light, plugged it in and:

No running light.

Flip the the left turn signal switch and the running light filament is flashing.

Along with this the headlight is, to be accurate, dimming along with the lower running light when the left signal is on.

Nothing I do makes the left signal filament light up even though I did not unplug anything from when it was working before.

Try the right side signal and everything still works correctly. Try the left side and I get the above description.

I'm making a weird circuit somewhere.

Should I tap power from somewhere else?

My first guess is your 2nd tap cut the wire. Now current is going through your turn signals to control the running light.
Remove the last tap you installed and see what happens.

(Too nice a day - everyone is out riding.)

Obviously, power is traveling along the wire, then into the flasher, which means less for the headlight, hence the headlight dims.

Instead of trying to tap the headlight power, run a new line for your flasher.

So I removed the splices I had and hooked it up like I had it before, just turn signals, and rode it to work today.

As I'm riding home, I notice none of my signals are working. I'm lost. I've been looking at the wiring diagram on the wiki but I really can't follow it.

Adidas' first guess is likely your problem. Gotta be careful about those tap splices.

Pulled the flasher relay.

I'm getting power to the relay but when I lay my tester across the relay contacts I get nothing.

Okay so I jumpered the wires that were going in to the flasher relay together and when I flick the turn signal, the lights turn on but no flash as expected.

Looks like I have a bad relay.

What could have I done to fry it?
