New spark plugs! Runs a bit better now, and it got to meet a fancier sibling at the bike shop, a newer GS500F.

Replaced really old fuel lines in hopes of solving high speed fuel starvation issue.  Got it all back together only to realize I forgot to re-open the petcock at the base of the gas tank.  Oops!

Rode it 300 miles on back roads to watch a friend of mine fix his Audi A4 brakes.  Along the way, I found a wind farm, and snapped a picture for the picture game.
Bikeless and Broke at the moment...

Installed a permanently mounted battery charger/tender under the seat. It's really wierd to walk outside and see my bike plugged into an extension cord. Anybody have any experience using these, it's an attwood 3Amp.
Friendly fire, isn't. But it's the most accurate. Semper Fi

I removed my Type 2 handle bars and replaced them with Emgo Daytona Touring Handlebars. I had to cut 1/2 inch off each end of the bars so all of the cables would be long enough. I prefer the more upright riding position. Type 2's are for sale. I also added a cigarette lighter outlet so I can now plug my GPS in. Overall, a good day. :woohoo:

:woohoo: Turned over 10,000 miles on a ride up the penninsula today. Also last week was our one-year anniversary together. Purchased with 6,200 miles on the clock.

Spent the day trying to get my carbs rejetted. Huge PITA, almost as bad as replacing the rear shock. Gas tank came off fine, battery out, airbox out, carb out, all good no problems. Float bowl cover off - big problem. Almost all the screws were seized up in there, and those screws are so soft I stripped them without even applying torque it seemed. So I went into town for the 2nd time today and bought some hex head bolts to replace all my stripped screws. I managed to get all but one out without major problems, by pounding the screwdriver into the screw first for more grip. The one that I totally stripped took god damn forever to get out. First I tried this screw extractor thing I have, that I've used to pull out stripped wood screws before. The problem? The screws were too soft for the extractor to bite, so I just made the problem worse. I finally got it off by filing a notch into it and pounding a flathead screwdriver into it. After that it was fine. My carbs were even clean and the floats were still white. Then I put a lunchbox on and put iridium plugs in. Seems to run a lot better now, and it even sounds better. Tomorrow I'm going to put some new spacers in the forks, the ones I have in there were kind of jury rigged.

This should make Phenix look really cool. Yes - I did it just for looks. Not that I really know why I would be adjusting the preload for normal city riding.

I got the adjustable preload fork caps from a member in Europe. I found I had some aluminum spacers I took out of a set of forks - those would work fine for the washer the caps need to press on.

So I laid things out. Marked a new spacer for the same length as with the preloads in the middle position. I use the PVC pipe cutter (cheap tool) because it cuts clean, straight and no plastic chips from sawing.

Then dropped things back in the fork and put the caps on.

Looks cool. I really have no idea why I would be adjusting these. I really did it for the cool factor and to have some unique, OEM European parts on Phenix.

Covered up the red on the Gimbel seat of Phenix's with Urban Gray Metalic so it matches the rest of the bike. Soooo sexy now! Hoping to show him off at Backfire Moto on Wednesday of weather is decent. I plan to leave cards on him promoting gstwins.

Oh - just got another member for the West Seattle GS500 Club. My house was appraised today for a HARP refinance to lower the interest rate. Low and behold - the appraiser said his son just fixed up a 1999 black/yellow GS500! Spooky, isn't it?

Yes. You can see the red doesn't work. It was for the 1989 tails with the red and silver stripes. I opted not to use that color scheme.
PS: You gotta admit that the SS chain guard really accents the bike! Then so does the shark fin, gimbel rear set, etc. etc. etc.
PSPS: Tomorrow I better figure out how to remove the left side emblem on the stator (so someone else can have it) and put on chuck81's billet emblem. I want to really show off Phenix on Wednesday.
PSPSPS: I will take more photos at Backfire Moto.

That's Phenix. You can't see the belly pan in the little bit of Junior that shows in those pix. I'll show you the belly pan when I'm back out there taking pix tomorrow night. Going to bed now.

Been busy tonight. Suzi got a REAL carbon fiber (fibre for you other countries) mud flap. It goes with her carbon fiber rear hugger.

Another shot of Junior tonight showing the repainted seat and the Motad exhaust. Orgasmic looking bike.
