so i was lookin through craigslist and found a R6 ad.  To start off the person cant be at the least bit creative or he/she would of put something other then the boring fact sheet about the bike.

anyway, the head line of the ad was 200 HP/liter!!!!!     Now im not the brightest bulb in the store, but even i know that the R6 engine dose NOT make 200 bhp.

what i under stand of the hp/L is that its a measurement of how efficient the engine is, not how much power it has??

am i correct in my thinking?

any engineers in the class room???

on a side note, i did send the craigslist ad a little message letting them know that a new factory R6 only produces about ~120bhp, and thats measured at the crank. the person has been blowing me up telling me that im an "arrogant ass" and that i should mind my own business.  (that 120 figure was taken right off the R6 page from Yamaha)

oh well!
Peace out girl scout,

That's a stupid way to advertise that bike but yes it does make an proportional equivalent to 200HP/L.

2010 R6 is 120-130 HP with 0.6 L ( I don't know what year  :dunno_black:)

120hp/0,6l = 200hp/l  ;)

I believe it was an 09.

OK, so it wasnt false advertisement, just misleading.

so what is the hp/L for the GS?
Peace out girl scout,

GS has about 96.5 hp/l, calculated with 47hp and 0,487l.

It's like stating the Bugatti Veyron has "only" 500ish HP per ton but a F1 car has 1500ish per ton. They Bugatti has almost 1000hp and the F1 is something in the ballpark of 575 I believe. Yet wieghs about you're average obese American.
Friendly fire, isn't. But it's the most accurate. Semper Fi

In my experience, the stupid are apparently tired of having their mistakes pointed out to them LOL

My Kz1000 made 102 Hp back in the day

Not really on topic, but F1 cars (2012 spec) get about 750 horsepower from their 2.4L V8 engines, with another ~80hp available as a boost from their KERS (kinetic energy recovery systems). And the weight is 640kg, so up to 1300hp/tonne. Best sport in the world! :)

But back on topic, stating a vehicle's power as hp/L is completely useless for power comparisons, while hp/weight unit does actually give you a relative idea of power.

So to add to my last paragraph a GS500E has about 279 hp/tonne dry without rider. While a ~2010 R6 has about 789 hp/tonne. Clearly a completely different class of motorcycle... (which it is of course). For comparisons sake an "average" car clocks in around 100 hp/tonne, and an "average" horse would have about 1/2hp/tonne (not really though, but using some fuzzy logic... :)

It's not misleading at all.

It requires you to know that a 600cc bike is not 1000cc, but beyond that ...

That said, it is a somewhat odd way to advertise a bike.  Stands out from the other ads though, doesn't it?

If you can't be a good example, at least try to be a horrible reminder.
