Hi All

New to this forum and new to motorcycles. I got my learners about a month ago and bought myself a brand new GS500F. Love the bike but the weather has been rubbish since I bought it. I live in Olinda in the Dandenong Rangers and I am a bit tentative riding on the Tourist Road as it is very windy and wet at the moment. Waiting for some better weather and then I want to go for a decent ride. If anybody lives in the area and wants to join me let me know.

Cheers

I am not interested in anything you have to say
Don't bother talking to me, I will not answer you

Hi Rashy,

Tentative is good - but - can also be a deterrent to leaning and taking a corner correctly instead of staying more upright, getting target fixation and running off the road.

Wait for dry weather and get your confidence there first. The wet can come later.

Hey Rashy, my club, Eastern Suburbs Motorcycly Riders Inc (ESMRI) are based in FTG have a ride on this Saturday leaving from BP Montrose at 9am. I will be there on my GS for the run to either Bendigo or Heathcote for lunch and then home. Some of the guys are going to the Jung rally for the weekend and others like me are just doing the day ride. We will all depart from the same point but obvoiusly take a different route to our destinations. Most of the bikes are Suzis with a sprinkle of other makes. Mine is the smallest of the group but I have no problem keeping up. I ride near the rear of the group and they always wait for me if needed. If you would like to join us be at the BP at 8.30 for a 9 departure. You would be most welcome and the weather should be OK, if a bit cool. It would be great to have another GS on board and I will stick with you if you want me to. If you are not interested this time let me know and perhaps we can get together on Sunday as I am free then too ( most unusual) or some other time. I often ride through Olinda and love the Spur runs when the weather permits. Home for me is Chadstone.

Paul (aka Macka) :D
PS: I hope that you enjoy your bike. I love mine.

Thanks for the welcome everybody.

Great to here about ESMRI. Unfortuntely I have family coming over this weeknd to help me do a few tip runs. Please keep me informed of any other rides you have coming up in the future. I also have a mate who owns a Triumph that may want to come along too. Also keep me informed when you are up in Olinda next.

Cheers

Rashy,
pity you can't join us this time. Our next monthly club meeting is next Tuesday evening at the FTG Bowls Club. Why don't you come along with your mate and meet us. We are pretty laidback and have a couple of beers during and after the meeting. It starts at about 8pm and I am usually there from about 7.30-7.40 onwards. It is quite close to you but it takes me about 30 minutes or so to get there. I am the one with glasses and bald on top. Both of you are most welcome to come and have a look. Just Google ESMRI for a look at our website.

Some say that he submitted a $20000 expense claim for some gravel

And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.

Bear, Smeggles and Rashy,
maybe we should form a GS Chapter in Melbourne. I have seen a few around but don't know them. I do know one guy with a GS but he uses the bike strictly as cheap transport and is not interested in any social activity. There is also one guy in Geelong that I have posted with but at the moment I have forgortten his name. Let me know if any of you are interested in forming a group.  :icon_idea:

I had a good run today to Queenscliff for lunch via Lara and the you Yangs and then return through Ocean Grove and Barwon Heads. On the run home I made a pitstop at the Little River Pub for a drink and a slash. There were about a dozen or so bikes out the front and they were all "Yankie Iron". I thought that I might not be allowed in as I ride "Jap Crap" but a couple of the guys said gidday as I walked past. Yesterday eight of us from my club did the St Andrews/Kinglake run. They all went home after lunch at the Kinglake Pub but I thought that it was too early to go home so I went for a run up the "Black Spur" and then home. GS ran very well both days and returned 3.39L/100K or 29.48 KPL for the two days. I hit reserve at 470k. Keep in touch about forming a GS Group. I would like to be a part of it if you will have me. I am an "older fart" who rides within the speed limit (most of the time ). My preference is for avoiding the major roads and enjoying the scenery around me.

Cheers,
Macka

Both Smeggles and myself are the wrong side of 50, so the speed limits and the scenery are our greatest friends also.... We havent been riding long ourselves, Our first long ride was to hand over the relay baton to South Aus in Bordertown a round trip of over 1000k's. We had a ball.. now we're looking for more rides and scenery with coffee stops along the way :)

Sounds like a plan to me. I will be the baby of the group at 43 ;) Agree, I am no hoon and not interested in screaming around the streets. Give me some nice country scenery and a good coffee and I will be happy.

I manged to get out for a bit on Saturday before my father in law came over. Went on a nice run through Emerald and then towards Cockatoo. Turned before Cockatoo and headed toward Woori Yallock, through Yellingbo. Turned onto the Warburton highway and then left again back to Monbulk via Silvan on some nice country roads. Just clocked up 400km's on the bike.

Let's arrange a meeting point and catch up for the newly formed GSTwin Melbourne Branch.

I know where you are located Rashy but what is the home area for Bear and Smeggles? I am just wondering where a central meeting point might be! By the way Rashy, is that GS Twin or GST win? I thought perhaps we could call ourselves the GS Chaps (short for Chapter) but maybe we might be mistaken for BMW owners if we did that :icon_sad:. Maybe the GST Chaps but we might get shot if people think we are Tax Office workers. :2guns: Ideas?  :dunno_black:

Not sure of their location Macka. Not sure about Micheal's cryptic message either.  :dunno_black:

Let me have a think about a name. I need to get creative.
