i heard u can put ninja 500 clutch lever on the gs just wondering what i have to do to do that

jdoorn14

Step 1 - Search the forum

Step 2 - Find the how to video sticky thread in the General area and watch adidasguy's clutch lever video and slipprymongoose's handlebar replacement video

Step 3 - Draw conclusions about what you need to do to make it happen.

from what i gather i need a different perch from a sv650  and the    the lever is that all i need

tialloydragon

You will need a ninja 500 clutch perch and a ninja 500 master cylinder.  That is, unless the GS's and the ninja's are compatible.

I installed SV650 adjustable shorty levers on my GS because the OP used a SV650 master cylinder for the front brake.  All i needed was to swap my clutch perch with a SV and I was good to go.

Theoretically, that's all...but the clutch cable will likely hit the instruments due to the angles involved. Depending on who you ask, this is either negligible or insurmountable and requires a custom clutch cable.

i have another question  can i use a clutch master cylinder look of a gsxr 1000  as a brake master cylinder

jdoorn14

I'm not sure I understand your second question. The GS500 doesn't have a hydraulic clutch, so I'm not sure what you would be trying to do with a clutch master cylinder on the GS. I would think modding the GS to use a hydraulic clutch wouldn't have enough of a return on investment to make the mod worth it.

As you should have found through your searches, there are many compatible brake levers as the GS500's brake perch is pretty standard. A brake lever for an SV650, for example, should be usable without changing the brake perch. The clutch perch is not standard and must be swapped with one from a different model (many use SV650 clutch perches, I believe Adidasguy used one from a Honda something or other) if custom clutch levers are to be used.

I clutch res. will never work for a brake: lever on wrong side when you use it as a brake. Why would you want to?

I used a Honda F4 clutch perch with ASV levers. No need to change brake perch. MotionPro made a custom clutch cable with a 90* bend instead of the 45* bend so it got past the instruments ($40 for it).

The SV perches others used are good. You will need a custom cable to get past the instruments.

If it push about the same amount of fluid, I don't see why it would not work. My guess is no one here has ever done that. Knowinbg why you want to do it makes us think a little more about what solutions might exist.

Could there be a technical forum on a CP board where others have done similar?

Most handle bars are the same diameter, so it should be easy to find  many that would fit. The question is do they push the same amount of fluid? More = touchy brake. Less - soft weak brake.

+1

Knowing that you are using something different than stock parts in your current setup also helps us providemore informed responses. Do you have pics of your current setup you can post? I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to see it... :thumb: (We like "in progress" pics as well.)

@ Adidasguy: Your custom clutch cable is the same otherwise, except for the 90* bend (i.e., same length)? This same customization should also work with the SV perch, right?

Probably. It works with a stock perch and the Honda perch. I probably have a few custom cables that I haven't used. Since I have the LSL levers, swapping perches is not necessary any more. When I gave the ASV levers to my neighbor for his first (used CBR600) bike, he learned how to swap perches on Suzi and put the stock perch back on her with the LSL lever, leaving the modified cable in place. There should be an SV perch in my stash I can check out.

MotionPro will make any cable. I sent them a Honda cable and a GS500 cable with instructions to make the perch end like the Honda cable for the GS500.

jdoorn14

Probably works well enough for me.

Send me a PM w/ price if you want to let go of one of those custom cables. Otherwise, I suppose I can work with MotionPro.
