You can see in the pictures that the side covers (and that rear thing) were missing when I got the bike.



Because I'm not finding any answer from the search function here, if anyone could tell me whether they know if the 2002 side covers are also compatible, or perhaps any other year (2000, 1999, etc)? So far the only thing I see between the different year models is that for 2001-2002 the 'plastics were changed'. The model numbers seem unique per year, so I get no help from that.

OEM they're quite pricy when I can try to get a used one for $25-75. Yea the different years would have different colors or logos but I'm not finicky :p

Also is the right side cover supposed to come with some sort of locking mechanism?

the right side facing the front or rear of the bike? yes, the side on the left (When sitting on the bike) has a key lock, but this is to remove the seat (easily done without a key if there are no side covers) I would personally use this as an opportunity to fabricate my own.

what year is the bike? it would be easier to answer your questions if i knew that.

The tail plastics are 3 pieces: 2 sides and a rear center piece (all years are 3 pieces).

Compatibility: 1989-2000
2001: things changed so 2001+ are all compatible. BUT they are not compatible with 89-00 tail plastics.

Any 2001+ will work for you.

The bike is of the year 2001. I'm glad to find out any 2001+ year will work.

For some reason I was under the impression that the right side cover (as of sitting on the bike) had the lock. And yes I'm able to easily remove the seat without the covers, I currently have a cable tie attached to the mechanism underneath to tug on--and release the seat with.
