how do I test my electrical system

her is what I know so far:
currently my battery is charged my head light and all my other lights come on but when I hit the start nothing (no starter click).  I took apart the switch no obvious corosion or problems with either switch in the housing.

Here is what happened when it failed:

In a nut shell my bike died I took it apart and found a bad float needle housing o-ring caused the right carb to flood liquid gass into the combustion chanber.  While I was tryuing to restart my bike in the middle of the street it was cranking then suddenly stopped.  I believe it was only firing on one cylinder at this point.

Other work I have done to my bike(in order):

removed carbs and cleaned then replaced orings and float bowl gasket
changed the clutch assembly and plates
installed progressive springs
added a inline fuel filter

anyway i need to know how to hook up a multi-meter and find out if I shorted/burned anything out or if my bike is just special needs and I should shoot it.

Not be obvious, but you know about all of the various "safety" switches, right?

1) Engine Kill switch set to ON / RUN.
2) Clutch pulled in.
3) Sidestand up, if the bike's in gear.

I think your fuse must be OK, because I doubt the lights would come on if it weren't.

I wonder if one of the safety switches is broken, or the wires to them are broken or have a bad connection?  For example, check the wires and connections for the clutch switch (below).  If they look OK, undo the two screws and pull the switch out.  Is the plastic tab broken off so that moving the clutch lever won't toggle the switch?

See if you can figure out similar checks for the sidestand switch (I haven't looked at that one yet).

Finally, I would still suggest that you try to jump start your bike with a car battery.  You never know where the crossover point is between being able to light the lights and being able to throw the relay / turn the starter motor.

Let us know what you find out.  If we need to go to the next step with the meter, we'll have a better idea of what is known to be GOOD.
