What are your pet peeves?

We've all seen other riders on the road doing things that make the eyes roll and maybe the blood pressure go up a few points.  It may be matter of personal riding style, or a disregard for basic safety, for the rider or for others around them on the road.

Think of this as a chance to unload and re-center yourself in the universe, and maybe ... just maybe ... something for new riders to use as they develop their own riding style and habits.

So ... what pops your cork?

jestercinti

I'm extremely bitter today.  Perfect for a rant post:

Riders that don't wave.
Inability to grasp the concept of staggered formation.
Texting/talking on phone while riding (yes it happens).
Friends/relatives that get upset when I don't follow the previous line item.  I'm on a motorcycle for the love of GOD.
Squids in general.
People that talk about riding and never do.
People that utter the phrase "Gee, you don't look like a biker?!"

What's a Peeve? I don't think I have a pet Peeve though I do have 2 pet cats. Is a peeve an animal related to a cat?

Formori

Jester, I agree with everything you said, but just to actually contribute, here's my personal pet peeves (to do with motorcycles):

Squid-like behavior >:(
People riding in t-shirts :cookoo:
Other motorcyclists that don't wave :flipoff:
Lazy driving technique :nono:
Extremely loud harleys, cruisers, sportbikes, etc. :dunno_black:

and last but not least!

Cagers not paying attention to anything around them! :2guns:
Save a horse, ride a bike!

You stole my thunder...this is one of my annoyances, too, but only if the previous thread is still alive. However, duplicate live threads are slightly better than someone creating a zombie thread from a topic that has been dead more than 2 yrs. :icon_razz:
It seems it has become necessary to qualify my posts:

You nailed it on the one about People that talk about riding and motorcycle but never do.

I've only been riding a little over a month but have put many more miles on my bike than some of my friends.  They have these massive Harleys and other cruiser style bikes and love to talk about them, but when I talk about riding they gripe about how they couldn't ride that far because it hurts, etc etc.  Or you see their bike in the same spot in their driveway/garage every day, just accumulating dust. Its like come on, if your going to talk down to me about riding because I have only been riding a month and a half, at least ride some yourself! Don't talk to me like you love it and then follow it up with saying the only riding you do is to go get an ice cream and back maybe once a month.

Thank you for letting me get that out.

Case in point.  I used to work with a guy last year who had a 2002 Harley.  It had 2000 miles on it.  I have a 2009 F model with 9100 which was purchased new in the spring of 2011.  When I showed him my bike he said "That's dirty.  You need to clean it."  To which I replied "That's because it's used, not just on display like yours."

I told him to put up or shut up.  Have not heard him talk about it since.

My biggest pet peeve is seeing guys in a full face helmet, tshirt, jeans, sneakers, and those stupid icon vests.

crobwolfpack

Mine is definitely people riding with no regard for personal safety as well as those around them  :flipoff:  Gives riders everywhere a bad name

cbrfxr67

What crob said,....dude on cruiser yesterday, on i10 doing 85 in shorts and wife beater, weaving all over the place.  Not even glasses!  And, obnoxiously gunning it, then coasting to get the brap brap brap braaap(!) sounds as much as possible.

Duplicate message threads.

Apologies for the duplication; it was completely unintentional.  I was in the yard, which fronts onto a state highway (35 mph limit) and watched 3 bikes (2 Harleys and a racer) go by in a few minutes time that went through 3 gear changes in about a hundred yards distance -- that's where this thread came from.  I've been looking almost exclusively at the General Discussion area, and this seemed to be along the same lines as What Have You Done For Your Bike Lately?.  It never occured to me to check the other areas.

If the moderators want to delete this thread, that's understandable.

Two cats here, too.  A peeve is closely related, but has made the Top-10 Deadliest list on Animal Planet.  Definitely not for everyone -- I'll stick to cats.

One or the other will likely die off eventually, but the mods probably won't kill either one. The mods around here are pretty nice, & typically don't act like normal mods--in other words, they aren't forum nazis.

i said that about my 2003 anny HD. sportster 883c/1200 conversion, ( with unwarranted mods lol) sure she was dirty, but i bought her with 543 miles, time i hadto let her go she had 7763 miles. a year later riding in the winter is a Buddha Loves You. but leather riding gear, chaps etc, insulated with plastic bags makes it tolerable. plus i could park my bike on hte sidewalk at the store.  ( had 2 spots for that marked off. ) anyhoo what gets me, people that get peeved about those not waving, when not considering, persons riding skill, it may be a newb, last thing i want them to do is take one hand off of controls. a simple nod would suffice however. when i couldnt wave on the gs, due to vibes, id nod, ( gs vibed more than my hd did lol) until i filled the bars with bb's

Lazy driving technique :nono:

Curious, what do you mean by that?

Either cars or bikes who don't obey actual traffic rules, like not signaling, not staying in your lane, not watching people around you, turning and jumping into the inside lane at the same time, etc. Most, if not all of this, drives me insane while I'm driving my bike or car.
