I read the forums alot, enjoying builds here and there and I just want to know what you guys think a "streetfighter" is?

In steez's 'CL finds' thread, one of the listings has a gs with the tail plastics removed and seller has 'streetfighter' in the title.  On cf, plenty of bikes on there that just don't seem to qualify as real Streefighters either.  SO, wondering what you think?

Thanks for your opinions!

Streetfighter: noun; When someone takes a perfectly good bike, removes all aesthetically pleasing features and parts, sprays everything with cheap flat black paint, then after deciding they now ruined the bike, calls it a "street fighter" in an attempt to remove guilt and impress friends who also say "WTF did you do to your perfectly good, beautiful bike?" also is an attempt to recover some of the loss when selling the bike. Similar to the "bobber" syndrome done in more urban and "cheap Hollywood B movie" style.

UNLESS you take an already shitty bike and make it better.  :thumb:

My idea was taking a traditionally faired bike and taking the fairings off and changing the headlight. Basically making a fared into a naked.

on CLF some of the bikes barely qualify as bikes!  :nono:

There really isn't a solid definition - we get the same argument on a Café Racer forum. Some guys say it has to be period correct, others say that it needs clubmans and a fiberglass tail section, etc, etc.

I've seen owners of "Street fighters" argue with each other about what defines the label. And I don't recall any success. There are always generalizations that go into it, so it's hard to please everybody.

I will say however, it's like pornography. I can't define it, but I know it when I see it.

Streetfighter-

To me; A heavily custom build on the more extreme side of styling. Can be anything from power->body in my eyes. No one should ever say that a true streetfighter looks OK. If done correctly i feel like you are either are going to LOVE or absolutely hate it.

To the world; Lately seems like the term streetfighter is to motos as ricer is to cars..

First a Streetfighter was a cafe racer as Big Rich describes it (customized for racing, naked sport bikes with torture rack ergos).  Then the name was used for sport bikes that had crashed and converted to naked bikes (you can see the similarity to the cafe racer).  Then bike manufacturers got a hold of the tough sounding word and used it for shiny and new naked sport bikes with unusually shaped headlights, with the emphasis on racing and speed now being optional.

You can see why the marketers did what they did.  The word streetfighter sounds tough, especially considering that it describes an inanimate lump of plastic and metal that has nothing to do with fighting.  Furthermore, the name was not widely used so they could still define the word as they liked.

selected other, because i consider it a bit of many of the choices. but for me a definate is a wrecked bike to make roadworthy AND SAFE ;) is a definate. others depends :) but a madmax look plus added power is also a big plus.
