I need some information here:

1. My GS500 1993 CDI has broken, to purchase the new one is impossible for me due to the high price - is there any advise what should i do? or where can i get the cheap price?

2. Does the CDI GS500 2004 compatible with GS500 1993?

3. Where can i get the cheap price for Pick Up Unit / Signal Coil?

Any information will be appreciated, thank you and ride safely ;)

Cheers

CDI's are:

1989-2000
2001-2002
2004+

(2003 not listed in USA parts lists so I don't know, but suspect same as 2001-2002)

What makes you think the CDI, pickup and your coils are all bad?

Yes mate, pick up and my coil they all bad as well as the CDI, I do have several times to check and it seems that CDI and Pick Up Unit doesnt work at all makes my engine running in 1 cylinder only.

So the 2004 CDI it is not compatible with 1993 huh :( do you have any idea what should i do or where can i get the cheap CDI and Pick Up Unit?

Thanks!

If running on one cylinder, isolate the problem.

Could be:
1. Coil or spark plug. Swap left and right and see if problem moves
2. Could be one of your pickups. There are 2 in a 1989-2000 model. I have heard of one going bad
3. Could be wiring or connector from the pickups. Check that and unplug, clean and replug connector under the seat
4. Last, maybe the CDI. First unplug and clean the 2 connectors on it. One is from the pickups. The other goes into the wiring harness then off to the coils, power and ground.

2001-2002 has a different CDI.

2004+ has a single timing pickup, timing rotor with lots of bumps (rather than just 1) and a completely different CDI with connections to the carbs, neutral switch (for 1st and 2nd gears) and other stuff.

Find another 89-00 bike. Temporarily swap CDI's to confirm or eliminate it as the problem.
Swap coils and see if the problem switches to the other side.

I'd have to research testing the pickups for specific data. However, you should be able to tell good/bad if you measure the resistance of the pickups. They should be about the same (within 20%). If radically different, then one would be bad.

Used coils, CDI's and pickups are available on ebay. Determine which is the problem first.

You are not the first to suffer this problem and it could be down to one or a combination of things but before you go throwing time, effort and money at the problem try the easy stuff first  :thumb:

Have a look at the auxilliary ground connection.....its the little black/white wire leading off the big black/white wire going to the battery negative terminal and it connects directly to the reg/rect, if it is loose or dirty it will lead to the problem you describe.

Ebay is the best place.  Make sure to CAREFULLY research the electrical issues and also make sure that the part you are buying works.  Ask me how I know this .

Also now would be a good time to purchase some "electrical parts cleaner" and go over every connection in the wiring harness.  Faulty connections cause false positives.  Make sure that your connections are good, clean, and tight.  Just because it 'looks' clean does not necessarily mean that it is clean.
Bikeless and Broke at the moment...

DeOxIt makes some good stiff.
Their audio survival nit is great for bikes. It comes with lots of little cleaning brushes to get into the connectors and scrub them clean. A final spray on things before re-connecting adds cleaner and corrosion resistance.

Anytimeyou work on your bike, clean connectors. They're subject to water and road chemicals.
