Hi folks,
I need help with the four lines off the gas tank. (off newer models)

Two are controled by the tank petcock, and they are labeled (O)n and (R)eserve.
easy enough.

but then there are two others.

1, near the main lines, that is straight down

1, near the right side of the bike, that is an 'L' shape.

One of these is a straight drain, and one is supposed to go into "the canister" box, under the battery.
Trouble is, I have no idea which, and the various manuals I have at my disposal dont tell me either :(
There's even a pretty little diagram of hose routing, pasted to the top side of the rear wheel guard, that has a tube going from tank to "the canister", but that doesnt identify which one, either :-(

Cap off the "L". That's vapor (vapour in other parts of the world?) for California tanks.
It goes to some "canister" thingy for emissions.
I think more emissions were made making the "canister" than it would even absorb from gas tank vapors.

Oh, the straight one is the drain around the gas cap. That runs down between the carbs & airbox to near the bottom of teh frame.

I had a feelig that was it.
I'm a stickler for doing it right.. so I'll attach the "proper" hose to it.

Which means that at best, I need to reroute a hose, and at worst, I'll need to take out the #$@# airbox again. sigh...
(that makes 4 times for this one escapade I think, if anyone's counting  :icon_lol: )

Pour water onto fuel filler - the drain is the one the water comes out of. If no water comes out, you need to clean it.

Or, open the fuel filler and ram a wire down the drain tube, which would be how you'd clean it if it was clogged. The one the wire comes out is the drain.

STOP! No need to take out the air box.
The drain hose normally routes between  the two connections from the air box to the carbs, then gets stuffed wherever you can do it to rout it down and out anyway you can. No reason to take off the air box to do that.

It is a non-critical thing - just a drain hose. Use some long needle nose pliers if necessary to stuff that drain hose down and about.

Thanks. I managed to mangle it into submission :)
