Spent the day testing camera angles and trying to find the best place to mount the cameras on the bike.
I am not interested in anything you have to say

I do not want a camera on the helmet. I want it on the bike so vibration is an issue. The low mass of a camera makes it susceptible to vibration.

I have been thinking of making a mount with rubber shocks and 2 to 4 pounds of "stuff" for enough mass to keep the camera stable.

One issue is the camera image sensors. In the cheepies (under $1000 let's say) they use sensors that scan the image like a CRT scans the image - so when there is vibration the image gets swuished and stretched as it scans 30 or 50 or 60 times a second. Better ones with 3 CMOS sensors like the FX-1000 do a snapshot - that is they capture the image all pixels at once then store them. That results in a more stable picture without that "rolling shutter" distortion.

So I will try a better mount for the Contour or GoPro. Other option is mount the farkling big professional Sony HDR-FX-1000 and safety wire it so it can't fall off.

I may play with my Canon GL2 - sort of in-between size.

Any of the picture-type-cameras that shoot video are really crappy - especially when their image stabilization kicks in.

Anyway - want to ride Vashon with me? Look like fun?

What is a RAM mount? Can you take a photo of your setup for me please. :)

I'll have to disagree here. I run a cannon dslr(t2i) as my follow cam snowboard/freebording. I'm still a noob when it comes to getting perfect shots, but check out one of my friends video shot purely on his canon 5d- one and two

I do agree that finding a perfect mount(min vibes, good view and audio) is tough of the moto. Stoked to see what type of mount you come up with adidas!

Side Note - Check out this sweet little mic setup i just snatch for my gopro2. works pretty damn well, going to borrow a friends and run side by side comparisons soon. Polar Pro's mic

I am speaking only about motorcycles and the vibration causing total crap or bad rolling shutter.

In my videos, I do multi-camera including many of the pocket cameras. They work fine for that. You probably can't tell which camera was used for which shot.

So......  any opinions of my favorite place to ride?

I will shoot some better video next weekend. I'll be playing around with mounts and will take pix for costa.

my bike was due for its 45,000km service, as soon as it hit 45,000 I stopped it and did the service (oil and filter) right on that very spot.  didn't move an inch, no one complained either about me stopping right at that very spot.

the reality is I was going to do the change tonight no matter what, you have to imagine my surprise when I looked at the odometer upon arriving home and parking in the garage and saw the above.  I thought it was hilarious.

also did the Bandit's oil and filter, sadly though it had ticked over 60,000km on the weekend just prior to a 300km ride, so no freaky photos for it.

mister

Suzuki suggests every 6,000km. You Should have done a service at 42,000 and then at 48,000. :thumb:

you're assuming I owned the bike since new, not the case.  being my regular commuter I have factored in two services a year into my running costs, I'd rather err on the side of caution and do it regularly, roughly every 5,000kms, which works with my roughly 10,000kms of commuting a year.  at about $45~$50 a service as a DIY, its cheap as chips and good insurance.

mimikeni

Gave it a thorough cleaning and chain lube so I wouldn't be upstaged by all the Harley's at the race this weekend.

Well, every 5000 is better anyway  :thumb:

Gave Junior a new RedFox mud flap. Shiny! Goes better with the shiny fairing than the dull OEM mud flap. Also replaced the fender with a new-old-stock I had on the shelf. Looks same as the one I painted but it is a matter of pride in having new old stock rather than something I painted.

Taking Junior to Backfire Moto tomorrow to show off his new-old-stock fairing.

(The fairing on the left is shiny clean black. You're seeing reflection of the floor.)

Yes! (As long as they do not forget) Junior will be on display. He is very unique and an amazing restoration from a fugley black 1992 bike.

Email Tom and ask when he's sending more info ( thats what I did ) then your back on his radar !!.

Installed new left fork from adidasguy.  Hopefully no more leaks.

Also adjusted the preload on my rear shock to 6.  I had to take the bottom bolt that holds the dogbones to the knuckle out to get access to the collar with my spanner wrench.  Once I realized that I could use a jack under the engine (with piece of wood to go up between the headers) to lift the front end and get the right amount of pressure on the back wheel to line up the bolt and get it in and out it wasn't bad at all.  With that bolt out I was able to access the collar from the right side of the bike to tighten it up from 3 to 6.  Now my bike doesn't sag so much!  Much better...
